GO GIVE ONE ! Had a fantastic meet-up today with Matty Lewis who heads up York-based The Fortus Foundation! 🙌 The Fortus Foundation was recently set up with a passion to reach the ‘unknowns’ – the grass roots charity organisations across Yorkshire who lack visibility and resource to grow. The Uk charity sector does amazing things, but due to certain red tape and administrative burden, many funding mechanisms are excluding these tiny but mighty organisations. It’s amazing what they’re doing to support small local charities that struggle to get grants or funding. For businesses that want to give back and use their charitable and social responsibilities to advantage, and/or perhaps don’t have the time to organise fundraising events, you can get involved by donating just 1% of your profits. Find out more https://lnkd.in/gQAcnQff It's an easy way to make a big impact in the community and support those who need it most. 💙 so “ Go Give One’ and join the 1%er community. #FortusFoundation #GivingBack #SupportLocalCharities #BusinessWithPurpose

Here's why you should keep it local when choosing a charity to support. 💚 👉 We rely on local support. We don't have the big budgets of national charities to produce that kind of reach, so we need to find our support closer to home. 👉 As a supporter, you get to see the impact your support is having. 👉 With lower administrative and operational costs, local charities usually give a higher percentage of donations to the actual cause. 👉 There are different ways to support a local charity: you could give time, matchfunding, host a fundraising event, payroll giving or even purchase something from our Amazon Wishlist 🔗 If you would like to support us - details below👇 #ChestersMentalHealthCharity #MentalHealthAwareness #Charity #ItsWhatWeDo #Counselling #Therapy

There are so many benefits in letting go, especially when you're giving to charity. Not only does it help someone who's in need, it can also help you around tax time. So, on Give Something Away Day, we encourage you to clean out your closet, check the toy bin or rummage through your pantry for items you no longer need. Let's help someone in need by donating items that can help others on Give Something Away Day! #donatetoday #charitablegiving #changemaker #localbank #communitybank #communitybanking

✨️Spark change in the way you work – buddy up to find support.✨️ It can be so helpful to find a peer in another charity or organisation who does a similar role to you. Meet up for a cuppa and a chat regularly to use each other as a sounding board. Often it helps to see things through a different lens and to share your own learnings. #thecharityspark #charityconsultancy #fundraising #charityevaluation #fundraisingtips

If you want to see better supporter engagement, you should consider looking at the design of your charity response forms. Not only can an effective, well-designed form make it easier for supporters to complete, but it can also be more cost-efficient to process. Always a pleasure to be able to connect people to someone that can support them, whether that's linking charities with other charities so they can work together or cross refer to each other's services, or link a resident to a service that can really help them, or, as in today's case, link them with a relevant funder that is a good fit for the work they are doing. After all, working in silos generally benefits no one! #partnershipworking #community #teamwork

Raj Nair reminded me today of this Ted Talk by Dan Pallotta, 'The way we think about charity is dead wrong'. I've seen this before, but it was so good to be reminded of it as there are so many nuggets of gold in this Talk that we really need to keep reminding ourselves of, and talking about, as directors and executives of charities. My key takeaways: 1. "The social problems we are trying to solve are massive in scale and our charitable organisations are tiny up against them, and we have a belief system that keeps them tiny." 2. Why are we so afraid of individuals making money from helping people? Dan sums this up so well: "You want to make 50 million dollars selling violent video games to kids, go for it. We'll put you on the cover of Wired magazine. But you want to make half a million dollars trying to cure kids of malaria, and you're considered a parasite yourself." 3. The non-profit sector is at a disadvantage because we don't like to see our donations spent on advertising and marketing, even though that money could bring in significantly greater sums to achieve our purposes. As Dan says, "how does the non-profit sector take market share away from another sector if it isn't really allowed to market?" Personally, I think this issue extends to our concern as a society around charities spending money on 'administrative' costs, when those costs include the expenses necessary to achieve our purposes. 4. Charities are generally more afraid to take risks in pursuit of new ideas for generating revenue or achieving our purpose, due to the possible reputational ramifications. "When you prohibit failure, you kill innovation. If you kill innovation in fundraising, you can't raise more revenue. If you can't raise more revenue, you can't grow and if you can't grow you can't possibly solve large social problems." Is it time for your charity to put these strategic issues for discussion on its agenda?

"The cheque is in the mail" 📬 Not words you want to hear these days. Especially if you are in the world of fundraising. Any kind of direct mail program with a mail-back component is in jeopardy right now. With charitable giving on the decline over the past few years, this doesn't bode well, especially for the 80% of charities that operate on $500,000 or less annually in Canada. While we can't help with the mail, we can help with fundraising. Reach out to me or visit www.tiptappay.com to learn more about how tiptap can help you raise more in the short and long term! #CanadaPost #Fundraising #Charity #Giving
