At our Tech Blitz event, individuals from the blind, DeafBlind, and low vision communities came together for a day of exploration and connection. Attendees had the opportunity to test out and learn about the latest assistive technologies from many national vendors.
One of our main sponsors was Bellman & Symfon, a company that makes devices to help those who are hard of hearing, deaf, and DeafBlind. They offer a wide range of alert products. These types of alerting systems are particularly useful for DeafBlind individuals, as they enhance communication, safety, and overall well-being.
In this video, Peter, the founder and owner of Bellman & Symfon, talks to our team alongside an ASL interpreter. Bellman & Symfon offers products like:
Vibrating Alarm Clocks: Strong vibrations and loud alarms for timely wakeups.
Alerting Systems: Vibrations and flashing lights for important sounds like doorbells, phone calls, and smoke alarms
Personal Amplifiers: Clearer sound for better conversations.
These devices offer DeafBlind individuals greater independence and confidence in navigating daily activities safely and efficiently. Bellman & Symfon's commitment to developing innovative solutions underscores the vital role of technology in ensuring accessibility for all.

Introducing "Gesture Vocalizer" - a groundbreaking project co-created by myself and my friend, Deeksha Sindhu . This innovative endeavor aims to bridge communication barriers for individuals with visual, auditory, and speech impairments. Through a seamless integration of hand gestures, a serial monitor, LCD display, and Bluetooth technology, our project translates gestures into text and vocalizes them in real-time. By leveraging the power of technology, we're empowering the deaf, blind, and mute community to express themselves effortlessly, enhancing their independence and quality of life. This solution not only facilitates communication but also fosters inclusivity, enabling individuals to participate more actively in social interactions and daily tasks. With Gesture Vocalize, we're not just creating a tool; we're fostering a more inclusive society where everyone's voice is heard and valued. Join us in revolutionizing accessibility and communication for all. #GestureVocalizer#AccessibilityForAll#InnovationForInclusion

True innovation transforms lives by breaking barriers, and the Hearview glasses do just that. This technology isn’t about new possibilities—it’s about making real-time conversations accessible for Deaf and hard of hearing individuals in a way that wasn’t possible before.
I love seeing technology drive accessibility forward and how it helps society become more inclusive. It’s a reminder that when we prioritize accessibility, we’re creating a world where everyone is connected, and no one is left behind.

Navid Azodi and Thomas Pryor have developed a cool invention called SignAloud. SignAloud isn't exactly a glove, but rather a pair of gloves that work together to translate American Sign Language (ASL) into spoken words.
Here's how it works: Sensors in each glove track hand position and movement. This data is then sent wirelessly to a computer program that uses complex algorithms to recognize the signs. If the signs are matched, the corresponding word or phrase is converted to speech and played through a speaker.
The goal of SignAloud was to bridge the communication gap between the deaf and hearing communities. This invention won them the Lemelson-MIT Student Prize in the "Use It" category, highlighting its potential to improve accessibility.

Are audiologists involved in the innovation of hearing technology and assistive listening devices? Or do we just follow trends set by manufacturers of such? Do we understand which features of these devices to use to improve patient listening outcomes and when to use them? Are we able to link the function of such features to presenting patients hearing problems or the degree/configuration of individual patient hearing losses and their listening needs? I am curious to hear your opinions, let's have a conversation.
