I must say that Jon Reed’s diginomica provides some excellent information- I think it’s because they are so transparent, practice buzzword avoidance, and always looking for the broad implications/differentiation of a particular vendor strategy. This article on IoT/analytics via sensors/cameras connected to a cloud platform for fleet management and beyond by Derek du Preez serves those transparent/no buzzword/implication qualities. Vendors take note! Key concepts/ideas: Narrow use case that spurred mass adoption and scale. Lightweight asset tags to track/manage anything of value on vendor owned network NOT relying on infrastructure from other providers (huge security win!) Focus on making a few really happy vs being kind of useful to a ton of people (huge product design and marketing/sales win!); e.g., avoiding service gaps and lack of consistency via record keeping of interactions and knowledge of customers while pushing info back to ERP system. Thinking of product dev in terms of tight concentric circles broadening from closely related areas. Use of system to nudge behavior towards better safety and efficiency.
