The Challenge of Joint Space Operations, Washington DC (USNI) Jan 03, 2024 For the United States and its allies and partners, using space to obtain an information advantage is a key aspect of joint operations. The joint force uses space operations to understand the battlespace, exercise command and control (C2), and conduct joint integrated fires. For decades, the United States has enjoyed a significant operational advantage in space, but China is challenging that., : Washington DC (USNI) Jan 03, 2024 For

Best practices for space electronic warfare (EW) include understanding the electromagnetic spectrum's role in communication, navigation, and sensor data. It's crucial to master both offensive actions, such as jamming or spoofing, and defensive measures to protect assets. Continuous learning and staying updated with the latest advancements in space EW are essential. For example, as a Defense Technology Innovation Leader, staying informed through courses or certifications on space EW can enhance your strategic planning skills.

Space electronic warfare involves manipulating the electromagnetic spectrum, crucial for communication, navigation, and sensor data in space. It encompasses offensive actions like jamming or spoofing to hinder adversaries, alongside defensive measures to protect friendly space assets. Exercises often involve an “aggressor squadron” simulating enemy attempts to disrupt U.S. space systems electronically. Space Force Association

US Space Force to launch more integrated units to boost efficiency - Defense News "With the U.S. Space Force seeing positive results from its unit-integration experiment, the service is now weeks away from announcing plans to expand the model beyond the pilot phase, according to the head of Space Operations Command." Calian Group understands the opportunities - and dangers - that accompany the world's increasing use of space, especially as a growing domain for military activities. Space systems enable ISR collection and C2 connectivity, both of which are vital to situational awareness and decision-making. Calian delivers interoperability for military training and operational systems - for one military customer or for joint, multinational operations and exercises. We take a systems-agnostic approach to connect data feeds for training and operational purposes, for a "train-as-you-fight" experience. The critical role of space in modern warfare and the imperative of joint space capabilities in Europe. In Europe, the pressing need for advanced joint space capabilities is clear. To effectively counter the growing range of threats from counterspace systems and hostile uses of space, we must continuously review and modernize our policies, and structure joint doctrine to enable a collaborative approach with our Allies and partners. Together, combined space capabilities deliver the tools to safeguard our assets, respond to threats and deter potential adversaries. https://lnkd.in/dWwhsZf3

Space Force Advances in Warfighting Capabilities with 4th Field Command Yesterday, at the AFA Warfare Symposium, Frank Kendall, SECAF, briefed changes needed by the Air Force and Space Force to be ready for Great Power Competition. He emphasized that we are out of time and these changes are needed now, not two years from now. Gen Saltzman, CSO, "compared the transformation to that of converting a Merchant Marine to a Navy—preparing the Space Force to operate in a contested domain." Perhaps the biggest change announce by the CSO was the stand up of a 4th Field Command--Space Futures Command. The new command will be similar to Army Futures Command and will have three centers: Concepts and Technology Center, Wargaming Center, and Space Warfare Analysis Center (SWAC). The first two centers will be new while the SWAC is already operational. The goal of this new command will be stay ahead of emerging threats and also maintain its competitive edge in space. In addition to this change, there will be changes in educating and training Guardians, bolstering readiness, and increasing power projection. The CSO summed up the changes by saying, “What we’re really doing is building combat-ready forces. If we can’t build combat-credible units, we have no chance of deterring a very capable and determined adversary.” What do you think? Is the Space Force on track to build a credible warfighting Space Force? What other changes are needed? https://lnkd.in/ejpVzTT8

A recent analysis by NovaSpace (formerly Euroconsult) highlights a steep increase in global investment in space defense and security. Led by the United States, expenditures exceeded $58 billion and governments launched more than 107 defense and dual-use satellites in 2023. The launch rate for defense and dual-use satellites is projected to rise by 160% over the next decade, increasing geopolitical tensions and the military reliance on space-based capabilities. Key defense applications include intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and secured satellite communications. Saw this in the NewSpace Sadler Report today: During the outbrief to the Senate Armed Services Committee by the Chair (The Honorable Jane M. Harman) and Vice Chair (The Honorable Eric S. Edelman) Representative Harman was quoted “We are more dependent on space as a country and more vulnerable in space because of that dependency than any other country. And shoring up space, which is one of the threats we addressed, is absolutely crucial. it's not just military space, but commercial space. A lot of how you talked about communication, a lot of how we communicate is through commercial space. And think how inconvenience the public would be if all of a sudden their little devices, which we're all dependent on, didn't work." One way to defend those assets would be to give them the ability to move away from the threat. Adding refueling would allow defensive maneuver without reducing on orbit life. We have the technology to do this now. Why don't we? #onedropoffuelchangeseverything #gasstationsinspace #RAFTIisReady
