However, the lack of incentivising such projects and substantial cuts in royalty levied before export vis a vis export of raw gold, the chances of success of home grown refineries are less. For example in Ghana with 900 kg per day refining capacity by two large refineries set up,, none of them have been functioning due to lack of their main feedstock, the gold Dore.

B2Gold Corp reports N$4.04bn in gold revenue for the first half of 2024 B2Gold Corp. recorded C$219.1 million (N$4.04 billion) in gold revenue for the six months ended 30 June 2024, with 99,790 ounces sold at an average price of C$2,195 per ounce at the Otjikoto Mine in Namibia. Ore milled totalled 1,677,126 tonnes, with a grade of 1.76 grams per tonne and a recovery rate of 98.5% during the half year period. Ghana Regains Leading Gold Producer Position Ghana has resumed her position as the leading gold producer in Africa. President Akufo-Addo disclosed this in Parliament when he delivered his last State of the Nation (SONA). “Mr. Speaker, last year, Ghana regained her position as the leading producer of gold in Africa, having overtaken South Africa. Our gold production reached an unprecedented four million ounces (4 million oz), according to preliminary reports. “This is as a result of the progressive policies we have been implementing, which have led to the revival of dormant mines like the Obuasi and Bibiani Mines, and the expansion of existing ones. The Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo is in the process of acquiring the United Arab Emirates' 55% stake in Primera Gold, a joint venture resulting from a partnership aimed at curbing gold smuggling in the DRC. By acquiring 100% of Primera Gold's shares, the Congolese government aims to refocus the agreement on the country's interests, thereby strengthening its control of the artisanal gold sector to the benefit of local operators and the nation. In 2023, the Democratic Republic of Congo saw a spectacular increase in unrefined gold exports, reaching 182,754 oz compared with 1,490 oz in 2022 thanks to Primera Gold DRC. With the ambition of surpassing industrial gold exports, which stood at 1,034,938 oz in 2023, Primera Gold DRC forecasts revenues of $1.51 billion from 846,575 oz of gold in 2024 and $2.26 billion from 1,270,000 oz of gold in 2025, underlining the growing importance of artisanal gold in the DRC's economy.
