We had a ball hosting #BookUp networking drinks with Australian Publishers Association on Wednesday night as part of our 50th anniversary celebrations. Following a jam-packed schedule during the conference, full of inspiring conversations and fresh ideas for the publishing industry, it was great to bring everyone together to celebrate, with a few words shared by our CEO Josephine Johnston. Thank you to everyone that joined us to raise a glass to our 50 years! 🍾 Photographer: Carmen Zammit

Purposeful photoshoot planning has TRANSFORMED my approach to taking pictures. I used to think that I could simply pick up my camera anytime, anywhere, and produce great pictures without preparation, but I was wrong! A few years ago, I shifted my focus towards understanding the purpose behind each photoshoot and envisioning the specific images I wanted to create. The difference in results was mind-blowing! Today, I believe I've mastered my planning, whether it’s for personal projects or client projects. Everything I learned is put into an ebook: ‘A Guide to Purposeful Photoshoot Planning!’ It includes a workbook for you to practice and master your own photoshoots. Are you interested in seeing more details? Head to my website :)

What about that great NECANN guide / magazine!?!? Talking Joints Memo can handle all your content and printing needs at a fraction of the price from an agency. Get in touch: graham@talkingjointsmemo.com
Thanks to everyone from NECANN and my crew at Talking Joints Memo for an incredibly successful 10-year anniversary of the New England Cannabis Convention. Here's a photo gallery from the great Derek Kouyoumjian. But of course, we're not done just yet! My team is still working on content pulled from the show, from galleries to panel dispatches. And we are also looking for video and audio recordings of panels. Did you speak about something you would like to share with TJM readers? Send it over. Do you have an essay or opinion piece on the topic? Even better - send it over. And finally, we appreciate all of the kind words about the magazine we made for NECANN, and we'd like to make one for your company too. Please hit up Graham Wilson and me - we'd love to talk about doing a custom publication with you, and we can make it so your business doesn't have to pay at all. https://lnkd.in/ebBbsqP4

Thank you, Darko Mareš, for co-hosting a great open mic session today about educator photos and a big shout-out to those who joined in with their comments! Things to take away: - A good portrait photo is one that represents you in the light that you want to be seen, without it being forced or fake. - Getting a professional photo taken can be intimidating - start by informing yourself on who could be a good match for you and look for photographers like Darko, who are transparent and mindful about their process. - Even if you consider yourself to be shy, introverted or unphotogenic - this is not the persona you are showing when you're doing your job as an educator. Project the confidence in your skills and expertise! - Taking selfies of yourself is not good practice for beating the fear of the spotlight or learning how to be visible for your business. Get your family and friends to take photos that better reflect how others see you! - Always have a clear message in mind when you're advertising your services: the images that you use should complement this idea. Let's continue supporting each other in our journey towards impactful and authentic representation. Looking forward to more insightful discussions ahead!

B2B Marketing Coach | Conservation Communicator | Founder of Paste & Publish | Co-founder of Conservation Amplified
The pūteketeke won this year's Bird of the Year competition with close to 300,000 votes - all because of a comedian's joke going viral around the world. The winning bird last year was the native Rock Wren with 2894 votes. Thats about a 100x increase. Whilst this might seem like a good laugh on the surface, I see it as a win for conservation. In the conservation world, marketing budgets are a scarce resource. This type of promotion is a huge awareness boost for our beautiful manu 🐦 Which makes me wonder... what can we learn from this? And how can we apply these learnings to bring more attention to all the other great things happening in the conservation space? 🤔 Do we need to more influencers and celebrities talking about conservation? Or do we need to bring humor into our comms more, to reach a wider audience?
UPDATE: In more egg-citing news Forest & Bird's Bird of the Century runners-up have just been announced!! 👏 Special thanks to all our campaign managers for what was a one-in-a-100-year battle for birdy dominance 🎉 The top 10 are in order… 1. Pūteketeke Australasian crested grebe: 290,374 votes 2. North Island brown kiwi: 12,904 votes 3. Kea: 12,060 votes 4. Kākāpō: 10,889 votes 5. Pīwakawaka Fantail: 7,857 votes 6. Tawaki piki toka Eastern rockhopper penguin: 6,763 votes 7. Karure | Kakaruia Black robin: 6,753 votes 8. Huia: 6,467 votes 9. Tūī: 6,457 votes 10. Takahē: 6,292 votes And thanks to all of you who voted! Your support has been out of this world 💚 💚 💚 📷 Thank you to our fabulous photographers (please go to the Bird of the Century webpage to see the full-scale images and who took them https://lnkd.in/gcwMKDg) except for the kea (credit Craig McKenzie) and the kākāpō (credit Kim Collins).
