World Suicide Prevention Day may not be marked in every person's calendar, but for some of us it is a day of remembrance, reflection and action. This year the theme is Change the Narrative - how might we see our stories in other ways - this resonates for me as a person who has been bereaved many times by suicide, and who was able to survive my own suicidal crisis. When we change the narrative, the person in pain finds comfort and peace. The person seeking help, finds compassion. The person unsure of how to support another, finds confidence. The person devastated by loss finds community and connection. The worker, volunteer, shopkeeper, hairdresser, teacher or mate, responds to a person in crisis and is able to listen. Changing the Narrative is not just about people like me, it takes a compassionate community to make lasting change to value and save lives. Today is a day for asking ourselves how we contribute to that change. #WSPD #Bethechangeyouwanttosee #livedexperience

Today is World Suicide Day. Losing someone to suicide is an immense personal challenge. It's been 13 months since I experienced this loss, and the pain, grief, and anger are still present. I still can't really talk about it. How I feel, how this experience has changed my perspective on life and what is important. After such a tragedy, what surprised me was how many others have faced similar losses. How many shared their stories with me. It made me feel like people could understand what I was going through. Suicide is a prevalent issue, yet it remains shrouded in silence. Normalizing conversations around suicide is crucial. By fostering open dialogue, we can create a supportive environment and take steps towards prevention. Remember, if you are struggling, reach out to loved ones and seek help. You are not alone, and there is support available. Your life matters. #WorldSuicideDay #MentalHealthAwareness

In the run up to world Suicide Prevention Day it can be an emotional time for those bereaved by suicide. The silent scream. People who have lost a loved one to suicide experience Isolation, Shame, Fracture of Family, Loss of Friends alongside Trauma/PTSD and the everlasting question Why? Things can be made so much easier for them by friends who sit with their own unease and ask the difficult questions like 'How are you doing"? or "Do you want to talk about it"? Sometimes it's hard to ask the awkward question but it really helps the bereaved. People who have lost a loved one to suicide will tell you, it is often as if they and their loved one never existed. Talking about it really helps. #suicide #suicideprevention #loss #bebrave #ptsd
