The leadership of higher education institutions should reflect the diversity of the students they serve. However, a 2020 report by the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources (CUPA-HR) revealed that over 80% of higher education administrator positions are held by white faculty, while BIPOC faculty hold just 13% of top executive positions. The Volcker Alliance's Future Leaders of Schools of Public Service (FLSPS) is working to change this. University of Maryland School of Public Policy Associate Professors Niambi Michele Carter and Cullen C. Merritt, Ph.D. joined the inaugural cohort of FLSPS in 2022, with Associate Professors John C. Ronquillo, Ph.D. and Michael Woldemariam continuing the important work in the second cohort. Their participation in the program highlights the critical need for mentorship and networks to bring BIPOC individuals into senior leadership positions. 🌟 Every child deserves a school led by transformational leaders 🌟 Significant disparities in school leadership persist: principals in affluent schools stay an average of 6 years, while those in Title 1 schools often stay just 3. This difference impacts teacher retention, student achievement, and school climate. At School Leader Lab, we’re working to change this story by building a strong pipeline of education leaders. Now more than ever, strong, resilient leadership is essential across our nation. As our communities navigate complex, uncertain times, school leaders are crucial in creating the stability, hope, and safety that our students and educators need. Join us this Giving Tuesday to raise $18,000 so that we can cover the cost of tuition for a Ward 7 or 8 leader in our School Leader Cohort. Together, we will go From Challenge to Change. https://lnkd.in/eS4a_Bgk #GivingTuesday #GiveLocalTogether #FromChallengetoChange #LeadershipMatters
