Today is the European & World Day against the Death Penalty. The #DeathPenalty is an inhuman and degrading punishment, representing the ultimate denial of human dignity. It is illegal under the European Convention for Human Rights and the #CouncilOfEurope stands firmly against the death penalty: 🚫 in ALL cases 🚫 in ALL circumstances 🚫 in ALL 46 member states More than two-thirds of countries around the world have abolished the death penalty in law or in practice. The #CouncilOfEurope and the #EuropeanUnion call on those few remaining States that still carry out death sentences to introduce a moratorium as a first step towards full abolition.
