📢 In crisis settings, such as armed conflicts, girls are nearly 2.5 times more likely to be out of school compared to their peers in non-crisis countries, due to gender barriers. Even when they manage to attend school during crises, girl's learning outcomes often lag behind boys' due to intersecting forms of marginalization based on gender, disability, ethnicity, sexual orientation, displacement, statelessness, and more. To address these urgent issues, Switzerland supports Education Cannot Wait (ECW), the global fund dedicated to education in emergencies and protracted crises. This partnership underscores our shared commitment to: 🔸 Advancing gender equality 🔸 Empowering women and girls in and through education 🤝 This week in #Berlin, the ECW Executive Committee highlighted impressive outcomes: 95% of ECW-supported programs have significantly improved equal access to education for girls and boys in crisis-affected areas! Together, we are making strides towards a more inclusive and equitable future for all children! #EducationCannotWait #GenderEquality #InclusiveEducation #ECW #222MillionDreams✨📚
#ECW's Executive Committee comes together in🇩🇪to advance #education for crisis-affected girls, boys+youth in urgent need of inclusive, safe, holistic #QualityEducation. 🙏Thank you Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ)'s Svenja Schulze for hosting such an inspiring & productive meeting in #Berlin! The African Union stated that, through knowledge, competencies, skills, innovation, and creativity, it is #education that will be essential to nurturing African core values and promote sustainable #development. How can we make it possible? By creating "the conditions that make it possible to access #education anytime and anywhere, fostering critical thinking and self-awareness, promoting the creation of open, inclusive communities" - as Giampaolo Silvestri, AVSI Secretary General, highlighted today at Global Partnership for Education event. COMING SOON: DEMOCRACY TRAININGS for different professional groups Our Association for Democracy and Dialog organizes discussions, workshops, lectures, trainings etc. and cooperates with experienced partner institutions from different European countries. We understand democracy as both, a form of government and a way of life based on the idea that decision making needs broad participation and deliberation. All organisations can benefit from strengthening the democratic values, skills and competences of their members. Young people in particular must be given the opportunity to experience democracy in a way that strengthens their self-efficacy and makes them free and solidary citizens. We impart methods and knowledge to strengthen participation and deliberation in various settings - from sports clubs to workplaces and schools. Our democracy trainings are workshops for teachers, youth workers, NGOs, but also managers or public servants and other interested professional groups or individuals who want to strengthen their democratic competences and knowledge. To this end, we work with the Council of Europe's Reference Framework for Competences for a Democratic Culture, see https://lnkd.in/dnwqp3wD #democracy #education #citizenship #politics #knowledge #learning #methods #europe #citizens #youth #workplace

🌍 Policy Workshops in Cyprus: Promoting Active Community Participation in Decision-Making 🤝 Last June, in the framework of the HECSOs Erasmus+ project, Cyprus hosted a series of impactful policy workshops aimed at developing actionable recommendations to promote the active participation of local communities in the decision-making process. These workshops emphasized the importance of participatory democracy and brought together a diverse range of stakeholders, including representatives from civil society organisations (CSOs), universities, and public officials 👥. The discussions focused on fostering meaningful engagement between local communities and policymakers 📢. Through a collaborative process, participants worked together to identify challenges and opportunities for enhancing civic involvement and transparency in public decision-making. The goal was to create policy recommendations that advocate for a more inclusive, democratic process—where the voices of citizens and grassroots organisations are integrated into governance structures. Key outcomes from the workshops included: 🔗 Strategies to strengthen the relationship between local authorities and communities. 🏛️ Concrete measures to ensure that civil society organisations play an active role in policy formulation. 📊 Proposals for increasing transparency and accountability in public administration. The insights and recommendations generated during these workshops will inform future policies aimed at fostering a culture of participatory democracy across Europe, ensuring that citizens are empowered to influence the decisions that affect their lives 💬. Stay tuned for more updates on the progress and implementation of these important initiatives! ✨

In 2022, The Economic and Social Council from Romania entrusted us with the great opportunity of mapping European youth policy framework and to understand how this framework is being transferred to the local level within a very specific context: 2022 as the European Year of Youth. And today, on the Facebook page of the Council, we go live on presenting the conclusions and opening up the debate regarding the needed multi-sector dialogue in the youth field. The results of the study are available here: https://lnkd.in/dTRVEnvP

Project Manager at People's Voice Media | Working towards Equitable Futures with Lived Experience, Co-Production & Foresight
I'm very proud of these Policy Recommendations, co-authored with Georgia Davenport and Hayley Trowbridge, as part of People's Voice Media's involvement in the EUARENAS project. EUARENAS is a Horizon-funded European-wide project that responds to a major European challenge - the need to strengthen legitimacy, identification and engagement within the democratic public sphere. People's Voice Media has led on the Foresight and Future Thinking research strands, culminating in a set of recommendations that cities wanting to strive towards more equitable local democracies should implement: 1. Address structural barriers to participation 2. Build relationships of trust 3. Invest in formal and civic education 4. Make decisions for the long-term The policy brief transforms these key learnings into actionable policy recommendations that can be implemented at city level.
