Help us make a stand for justice and equality in Afghanistan. Dive deep into the intricacies of the upcoming Doha III meeting, a significant event that could potentially shape the future of Afghanistan, particularly for its women and girls.
Doha has become a critical hub for diplomatic negotiations involving Afghanistan, connecting the Taliban with the international community. The third UN-convened meeting in Doha, scheduled for late June 2024, is pivotal due to its potential impact on the country's future.
In the past, Doha witnessed crucial negotiations that have greatly influenced the current scenario in Afghanistan. However, the voices of the victims of the Taliban's brutality, especially women, have often been left unheard. Now, many women's activists are boycotting the Doha meeting due to the lack of a clear agenda and the absence of representation for these victims.
It's time we amplify these voices and ensure they are heard. The NGO Working Group on Women, Peace, and Security is calling on the UN, the Security Council, and the international community to prioritize the rights of Afghanistani women and girls in the upcoming meeting.
In the midst of all this, the United Nations is finalizing the drafting of the new Treaty on Crimes Against Humanity in October 2024. We, at Politics4Her Europe Hub and Associazione di Solidarietà Donne per le Donne (ASDD), are calling on the UN to explicitly include Gender Apartheid in this treaty.
