What will it take to break barriers for women in STEM? Women in STEM are driving breakthroughs in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, yet their journeys are often fraught with challenges. From combating gender biases to fighting for representation in leadership roles, women in STEM exemplify resilience and determination. Their contributions are paving the way for a future where innovation thrives on diversity. To encourage more young girls to pursue STEM careers, we need to build mentorship programs, create inclusive education systems, and amplify the success stories of trailblazing women. Every step we take toward breaking these barriers brings us closer to a more equitable future. How can we empower young girls to see themselves as the innovators of tomorrow? “Getting into STEM is the first step, but sustaining oneself and advancing to an executive position is a whole new battle.” Presenting women in STEM with upskilling and reskilling opportunities paves the way for success and increases the chances of more women joining the sector. Interesting read from Angeline Ico, Rebecca Bailey, Denise Pothier and Kelly Lyons on the changes required to make STEM equitable for women. 14 women. Just because they were women. Today is a day to pause and reflect on on this loss of these women, what caused it, and how senseless this is. Then we need to continue to mobalize women and move forward. We need more women in true positions of power, we need to end token feminism and call it progress. And we need to create a deeper understanding of each other and keep moving things forward 🙏 14 women. Just for being women.
Today, we pause to remember the 14 women who lost their lives on December 6, 1989, in the tragic École Polytechnique massacre in Montreal. These women were targeted for their pursuit of education and careers in engineering, a field where women have historically faced challenges. This anniversary is a solemn reminder of the importance of advocating for gender equity in all fields, especially in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. We honor their memory by continuing to challenge systemic barriers and create inclusive spaces where women in science can thrive without fear or discrimination. WISE NL commits to building a future where every person can pursue their passions safely and equitably.

Which begs the question, if you are working in an environment where you are able to support, encourage or mentor female talent through the organisation, what are you doing to make a difference? I love mentoring, because (selfishly!) it also provides me with so much insight and varying perspectives.
Ada Lovelace Day is an international celebration of the achievements of women in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM). It aims to increase the profile of women in STEM and, in doing so, create new role models who will encourage more girls into STEM careers and support women already working in STEM. Ada Lovelace Day shines a spotlight on the significant impacts of women in these fields, inspiring the next generation of female leaders. We see every single one of you, and the strength that diversity brings to keep encouraging more girls to explore STEM careers. Let’s champion the women who are already making incredible changes in these industries. Here's to future innovators! ♥️ Rachael Clamp Chart.PR | Anjela Maharajah | Emily Crees | Alice Hardy | Victoria Collier | Rebekah Holbrook | Natalie Stacey | Aggie Yemurai Mutuma FRSA | Annabel Honour | Claire Cross #AdaLovelaceDay #WomenInSTEM #DiversityInSTEM #Inspiration #Matchtech

Breaking Barriers: Empowering Girls in STEM In her inspiring TEDx talk, Ajla Gasal sheds light on the alarming gender disparity in STEM fields, where only 30% of researchers are women. She argues that this gap stems not from a lack of interest among girls but from societal conditioning and cultural stereotypes that discourage their scientific ambitions. Gasal proposes a three-step initiative to foster inclusivity: challenge gender stereotypes by simply calling female scientists "scientists," encourage family support for girls' scientific interests, and empower girls to build resilience in the face of challenges. By dismantling these barriers, we can create a future where girls thrive in STEM, embracing their passions without societal constraints. It’s time to ignite curiosity and confidence in the next generation of female scientists!

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗮 𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲? A well-known saying goes that it's hard to be someone you can't see - "You can't be what you can't see." ― Marian Wright Edelman There seems to be more hope then ever when it comes to women's representation in #STEM Study based on 20,860 sketches drawn by children over 5 decades shows that children are drawing women more than ever before. On November 8th, we celebrated National STEM Day—a day dedicated to recognizing the importance of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. This day is observed in many counties but started in the US. In this context, it's hard to avoid the topic of gender gap that still exists in STEM and the need for greater representation and opportunities for women. Women bring unique perspectives and drive innovations that benefit everyone. By inspiring and supporting girls to pursue their passions in STEM, we help create a future where no dream is out of reach. Luckily, the world is changing and we can see it trough the children's art. Let’s keep championing and celebrating women in STEM, today and every day!
