Most human rights complaints (50 to 60%) are and have been grounded in disability discrimination ... and yet govts and human rights commissions do little to nothing about disability discrimination (despite signing the CRPD under Harper and the Liberals, NDP and other pretending to support it)... its been painfully obvious that govt has been recruiting race based complaints to bolster their unsupported decisions to prioritize campaigns against racisms while ignoring discrimination based on disability. and here we have another campaign to address a relatively uncommon form of discrimination relative to how frequently the disabled face discrimination.
PICS-Anti-Racism program will be hosting an “Anti-Racism Art Exhibition” to create a dialogue on Anti-Racism Awareness in the community and online as well. AN AMAZING VIDEO ABOUT ART CONSERVATION, the career that I chose in the 1980s for the reasons shown and explained in the video (never have I regretted that choice). It illustrates why conservators can be valuable resources in studies of age, attribution, and authenticity, because they spend years studying the chemistry, degradation, and preservation of cultural property - and - years looking very closely at objects. But - and this is important - do not expect most conservators to say whether an object is authentic or inauthentic, misattributed or correctly attributed, old or period, because codes of ethics and guidelines for practice for conservators require a sound basis for such opinions (not mere speculation), and offering such opinions can open them to liability. Rather, listen closely for what conservators say or don’t say about authenticity, attribution, and age; for example, “wouldn’t it be interesting to have this object examined in a laboratory” or “You might ask [so and so] to look at this.” That might be what they are able to say, that you should hear. A joy to watch this film. Joy is one of the 10 essential threads of Original Learning - many of the other threads were being mentioned such as risk, time, imagination, interaction, wonder etc Also play. Play is at the heart of children being able to explore their fascinations - an atelier of this kind allows people to play with art materials - to really get to know them. That children with disabilities are being prioritized is fabulous - because if it works for them it usually works for everyone. Recent reading though is making me seriously question the word "special" though - and as an autistic person I have never particularly liked "special rights" - I have the same rights as everyone else - not special ones. Some children/adults need extra support/resources/time in order to access their rights. Special can make it feel a little othering at times. Maybe instead of special school it should be inclusive school? Maybe instead of special needs education - inclusive education? Or rights based education or educational support or? But there definitely needs to be more spaces like this where adults/teachers can practice teaching for/with learner autonomy and can not just know about it, but actually understand it - learning by doing
