In many cases, having a college degree can indeed result in higher earning potential, even in blue-collar or skilled trade careers. The relationship between education and earning potential can vary depending on the specific industry, location, and the demand for skilled workers. Additionally, hands-on experience and on-the-job training are highly valued in many blue-collar professions, and individuals can achieve success through a combination of education and practical skills. Here are several reasons why a college degree can lead to more money in certain blue-collar fields:

Focus on principles over power! In life, you can make a decision to primarily focus on either power or principles. It is challenging to be equally committed to both. If you are completely about power, their is great temptation to let go over your principles. If you are committed to principles, there will be times where you will need to let go of your power so that the goal can be achieved. People who are committed to principles will let go of power so that the greater good can be achieved. This tremendous accomplishment reflects 18 months of research and engagement with #CTE and industry representatives. The updated Framework also directly addresses many of the concerns expressed by stakeholders over the past decade – namely that the Framework is not reflective of the evolving world of work and imposes silos between and across Career Clusters that limit innovation and personalization. But the work isn’t done! We need input from CTE leaders, practitioners, and partners to ensure the Framework meets the goal of being industry-driven and learner-centric. Last week we had the privilege of attending a Future Talk event hosted by The Smith Family at Manor Lakes College. The event was designed to give Year 10 students exposure to a range of industries as part of National Careers Week. What I loved about this event is that it was framed around story telling. We told our career stories and why we love what we do to small groups of students, who then had the opportunity to ask us questions about our chosen career path and industry. Each group of students rotated through 15 different industries from construction to agriculture to Vic Police. The best question I was asked was ‘how did you manage money when you first started working and what advice or support did you get to understand how to manage money?’. I think this highlights that there’s a role for schools and unis to play in helping students understand how the world works and basic life skills that they may not learn at home.   Hopefully we sparked some interest in students studying Construction Management! #careers #construction #storytelling
