The Massachusetts Alternative Septic System Test Center at Barnstable County's Department of Health and Environment says: It's Terminology Tuesday, and we're launching a 4-part series on nitrogen. Nitrogen (N) is a gas that makes up 78% of our atmosphere and is essential for plant growth. However, it's also a significant water pollutant, contributing to harmful algal blooms and "dead zones" in marine environments. Learn more here: https://loom.ly/JibUN6E

As wildfires intensify, how does our water quality fare? Our partner The Water Research Foundation (WRF)'s 2016 study on wildfire impacts on water sources remains critically relevant. With 2/3 of US municipalities relying on forested watersheds, understanding these effects is crucial. Key findings: 🔥 Long-lasting, complex watershed impacts 🔥 Increased turbidity and contaminants 🔥 Challenges for water treatment processes Dive deeper into this vital research and its implications for our water future: https://lnkd.in/ejSqEGC3 #WaterQualityMonth

How did an arid desert city become a leader in rainwater harvesting? Before the turn of the millennium, most people saw rainwater as a waste product rather than a resource. When a local expert starting cutting curbs in the 1990s to provide plants near the road with rainwater run off, the conversation about rainwater quickly changed in Tucson. So how did UArizona + Tucson become Green Infrastructure leaders? Check out this article from Arizona Environment to learn what UArizona researchers and Tucson city officials are doing to make better use of rainwater and to ensure the benefits of rainwater catchment programs are distributed equitably. Reprinted with permission, the American Water Resources Association, IMPACT Magazine, has used one of my white papers as an article, in their MARCH/APRIL 2024 issue. Here it is: https://lnkd.in/eeJPGtZV The article is how land can be an effective medium for storing water to establish long-term water security and indicates what is possible with grazing animals to restore watershed health. At the WEST Consultants, Inc. demonstration site in Red Rock, AZ, we are not only exploring grazing methods, but also many other #waterconservation, #groundwaterrecharge, and #landmanagement practices to restore #watershedhealth. #holisticmanagement #civilengineering #regenerativeagriculture #water #watersecurity
