#FBF to when Chinatown received $20 million from the NYS Downtown Revitalization Initiative. CPC did not receive any funding but played a role in securing the funding by serving on an advisory committee with other Chinatown organizations and former Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer to improve access to critical services and support the neighborhood. We are thrilled that 11 projects were funded! Click here for more information: https://ow.ly/LuUZ50T491g

Public engagement is often central to Our Future Cities work, and there is always room to learn from others, like PUBLIC PRACTICE. Here are some lessons for the Global South context: — Create "urban rooms", flexible spaces for ongoing community engagement, to support continuous dialogue and conversations between residents and developers. — Be open and clear about project constraints. For example: clear communication about what aspects of development can be influenced through engagement — Tailoring outreach strategies to include hard-to-reach and marginalised groups by meeting them in familiar spaces
Public engagement can often be seen as a hurdle in placemaking, and for the public, it can be perceived as a tick-box exercise that doesn’t result in change. Next Tuesday's #PublicTalks event brings together Associates to share best practice examples to foster public engagement built on collaboration and trust. Watch the recording of the Talk: https://lnkd.in/eudiMcPC You can submit your questions for the panel in advance: https://lnkd.in/ecu85_ci This talk features insights from: — Barnaby Johnston, Development Manager at Greater London Authority — Hafsa Bell, Strategic Applications: Principal Planning Officer at Guildford Borough Council — Lucy Large, Principal Urban Design Officer at Dacorum Borough Council — Preena Mistry, Project Manager at Rochdale Development Agency — Rebecca Crofton, Senior Town Centre Project Officer at Barnet Council — Sandhya Parekh Regeneration Manager at Croydon Council — Simon Lord, Housing Development Manager at Guildford Borough Council Join us at 13:00 for a live streaming of the Talk and at 13:45 for a live Q&A. This funding marks a significant investment in the Lewisham community's future and will spearhead the regeneration of Lewisham town centre. The funding will drive three transformative projects aimed at creating new job opportunities, stimulating the local economy, and enhancing the overall appeal of Lewisham’s town centre for residents and visitors alike. These include: 🛍️ Revitalising Lewisham Market One of the cornerstones of the community, the historic Lewisham Market, has big plans for a makeover. Impact in Focus: In honor of CPC’s 50th year, and in celebration of completing renovations to 16 Manhattan NYCHA developments, we’re shining the spotlight on the PACT Renaissance Collaborative. In 2019, New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA), the nation's largest housing authority, chose the PACT Renaissance Collaborative (PRC) to renovate and revitalize 1,700 apartments across 16 Manhattan developments that are home to nearly 3,000 residents. PRC is comprised of CPC, Monadnock Development, The Community Development Trust, Community League of the Heights (CLOTH), Kalel Companies, and Lemor Development Group. Our participation in NYCHA’s innovative PACT-RAD program further cemented CPC as a trusted organization committed to enhancing the living conditions of NYC residents. We’re delighted to have successfully transformed these buildings into the #affordable, #safe, and #equitable homes their tenants deserve. This work has a meaningful effect on the lives of New Yorkers, and we can’t wait to see how much more impact we can make in the next 50 years. Please follow along all year long as we celebrate our 50th anniversary by highlighting the projects, people, and communities that have made CPC what it is today. #CPC50th #50YearsofImpact #50YearsofInnovation

Affordable housing is a matter of supply, demand, and perspective. There's no single policy that will solve housing affordability in the Tri-Valley, but engagement is needed to address the situation. What an amazing State of the City Presentation the Longmont Area Chamber of Commerce put on yesterday! As a proud #Longmonster myself, it was really insightful to hear from Longmont's City Manager, Harold Dominguez, about the city’s ongoing and future initiatives. The focus on essential services—such as Water, Power, and Public Safety—combined with innovative transportation strategies like Vision Zero, which aims to eliminate traffic fatalities, showcases Longmont's commitment to creating a safer community. They also discussed exciting new housing projects, enhancements to parks and open spaces, and Longmont's ambitious bid to join the Making Cities Resilient 2030 initiative—a program through the UN, which would make us the first U.S. city to participate! This presentation offered a comprehensive overview of the city's operations and priorities, highlighting what truly makes Longmont the world’s greatest village to call home! Special thanks to Karen Stallard (Mastie), COO at the Longmont Area Chamber of Commerce, and Carla Colin, President at The Latino Chamber of Commerce, for hosting such an informative Q&A afterward as well! #Longmont #CommunityEngagement #CityLeadership #UrbanPlanning #Sustainability #MakingCitiesResilient #VisionZero #PublicSafety #HousingDevelopment #LocalGovernment #LongmontStrong If you missed the presentation, here's a link to watch it: https://lnkd.in/g4RqYE52

Last night’s town hall for the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center Dallas Master Plan gave residents of Council Districts 2 and 14 an update on the project by first peeling back the layers of how the project came to be and then providing information on what the public should expect moving forward. Big thanks to Council Member Jesse Moreno for answering my question on the impact that redevelopment will have on our unhoused population. Here are a few of my key takeaways: 1) Construction funding will not come from taxpayers. 2) Conversely, when completed, the revenue generated from visitors to the area will help to simulate the economy, both within downtown and across the DFW metroplex. 3) Construction of the buildings is just the first part of the vision to make this area a lasting source of connectivity, positive economic impact, and community engagement. Additional town halls are scheduled across the city and I encourage you to attend, ask questions, and participate in the process of transforming the Convention Center area into something that represents us all. Q Shelter welcomes approvals for projects that will deliver 2,750 homes in Robina and a project in Wakerley that will deliver 45 homes. These homes have been approved under the new State Facilitated Development (SFD) pathway, which aims to speed up approvals where they are aligned with the intent of the Homes for Queenslanders plan. “The SFD pathway reflects recommendations from Q Shelter to speed up the delivery of homes so that we can meet the needs of Queenslanders confronting higher housing costs because there is not enough supply to meet demand. Housing supply of all types is important to achieving a healthy housing system.” said Fiona Caniglia. “In a crisis like this, we need to remove every barrier to the delivery of homes. We urge community leaders and their constituencies to support housing growth to meet the needs of a growing population. “We note that the SFD has a range of other pilots under consideration to unlock nearly 5,000 homes. As a community, we need to support the speed of delivery and processes that remove every barrier to ensuring enough homes are in the pipeline to meet people’s needs.” #HousingSupply #AffordableHousing #Growth #BetterTogether #HomeMatters
📣 State Facilitated Development (SFD) is underway! This weekend, Planning Minister Meaghan Scanlon declared the build-to-sell proposal for Robina and a 45-home project in Wakerley as SFD. This is a crucial step towards meeting the growing demand for affordable housing. The Robina project aims to deliver up to 2,750 homes, featuring convenient access to public transport, retail spaces, healthcare, and education centres. Importantly, 550 of these homes will be allocated for affordable housing. The SFD team has been actively engaging with industry, stakeholders and agencies over the past few months to identify opportunities to support development in Queensland. We are now looking forward to the next stage, the Chief Executive’s assessment of the application. There are a total of 12 projects in the pipeline, which if declared, will deliver around 4,945 homes total, including more than 25 per cent being affordable. Stay connected for more updates as we progress towards creating more housing options for Queensland.

I dream of owning a home simply for the stability it would bring. Without stronger renter protections, families like mine live with a lot of uncertainty. Right now, renting makes the most sense for us. We can rent our beautiful house for $3,600 a month, while buying it would mean a mortgage of over $8,000 a month—money we just don't have. By renting, we get to live in this wonderful community, and still afford groceries, baseball, and gymnastics for our kids. We're choosing to enjoy a high quality of life now, even if it means sacrificing some financial security for our future. Our property owners are fantastic and tell us we can stay as long as we want, but things can change in an instant, and without a legal document like a lease, those words are meaningless. What I wish for are long-term leases—20 or 30 years—with negotiated CPI rate hikes. These leases would provide true stability for families. There are successful models around the world that we could learn from. None of them are perfect, but all of them are worth learning more about. Germany for example offers 99-year leases that can be transferred to family members, providing long-term security. We could implement similar long-term lease options here, giving families like mine the security and stability we need. #AffordableHousing #HousingforAll #RentalReform #TriValley #ITVHousingforAll Innovation TRIVALLEY Leadership Group

Another section of #Austin is targeted for revitalization/gentrification. The city's Six Square District, once the predominantly African American center of Austin, has two parcels that are being considered for redevelopment. City officials are considering two development teams for the project, which would prioritize all aspects of affordability: affordable housing, affordable office, affordable retail, etc. Public input will be ongoing for the next three months. Click through the article to find out more about the two development teams and what they are proposing to build in East Austin. #realestate #Texas #development #affordablehousing #housing #retail #office #CRE CoStar Group
