On April 7, World Health Day is celebrated in honor of the creation of the World Health Organization 🩺 📌 According to WHO, health as a human right is mentioned in the constitutions of 140 countries. The Constitution of Belarus guarantees not just the right to health care, but also free treatment at public expense. Health is not a human right only but a business also. Revenue of the worldwide pharmaceutical market is about $1.5 trillion. It is worth noting that there is still enough room for new investment projects in the pharmaceutical market of Belarus. We're proud to highlight the significant progress made by the Government of the Republic of Cameroon in combating #AntimicrobialResistance (AMR) through the implementation of a One Health platform! From 2019 to 2023, Cameroon has made great strides in strengthening its multisectoral coordination bodies, now operational and meeting regularly. These bodies, including the #InfectionPrevention and Control and Antimicrobial Stewardship Technical Working Groups, have been crucial in developing the new National Action Plan on #AMR. USAID Medicines, Technologies, and Pharmaceutical Services (MTaPS) Program has been a key partner in these efforts, supporting the establishment of robust governance structures to ensure effective multisectoral coordination. Sustainability will be achieved through formalized leadership, long-term domestic funding commitments, and engagement with a broader set of stakeholders to advance the #OneHealth approach. This will ensure the ongoing containment of AMR at both national and local levels and lead to saved lived and a healthier future for Cameroon and beyond» https://lnkd.in/eSV5vuDB

The Regulatory Affairs Networking Cocktail Theme: The World Health Organization Global Benchmarking Tool Assessment of National Medicines Regulatory Authorities (NMRAs) and its Role in Pharmaceutical Systems Strengthening. Access to safe, quality and efficacious medicines for all in the African continent is still a vision awaiting realization. The health security of Africa is still challenged by diseases which can be prevented or treated with timely access to appropriate and affordable medicines, vaccines and other health services, yet stringent regulatory policies present challenges to access to medicines. In response to regulatory challenges, a number of regional harmonization efforts have been introduced by African Union through the African Medicines Regulatory Harmonization (AMRH) initiative. We also acknowledge the use of the WHO global benchmarking tool (GBT), a primary means by which WHO assesses regulatory systems for the regulation of medical products. Drawing from this, we have curated the Regulatory Affairs Networking Cocktail, where stakeholders come together for the purpose of working together towards a common goal, how can more African NMRAs adopt and benefit from the use of the WHO GBT? Join us on August 9, 2024 at The Concord Hotels, Beach Villas, and Game Lodges for an engaging & enlightening Networking Cocktail. I was thrilled to be part of such crucial first step towards a Critical Medicines Act. Indeed, we need to complement the #PharmaLegislation with a strong toolkit to tackle #medicineShortages that are adversely affecting patients across Europe. Under the auspices of the European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2024 led by Frank Vandenbroucke, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Social Affairs and Public Health, along with Commissioner for Health Stella Kyriakides and EU 27 Ministers of Health, the EU #CriticalMedicinesAlliance was officially launched. 15 CEOs representing Medicines for Europe presented our comprehensive approach to secure medicine supplies: 💊 A concrete shortage prevention strategy that includes EU medicines procurement guidelines rewarding security of medicine supply as well as the use of existing IT systems to predict and prevent shortages (such as the serialization system). 🤝 Collaboration between the EU and industry to enhance EU manufacturing competitiveness through digital and environmental innovations in production technologies. This can be facilitated through State Aids and IPCEI initiatives for off-patent medicines. 🔓 Concrete EU 27 solidarity should be our health mantra to deliver equity of access across EU Member States. We must avoid national stockpiling mandates, as they could result in oversupply in larger countries and shortage risks in smaller ones. According to the IQVIA MIDAS database, the German 6-months stockpile is equal to 10 Member Staes annual consumption and stockpile combined (see infographic below). We are ready to further collaborate with EU Institution, Member States and health stakeholders. Action is needed now! 💪🏼 #MedsSecurity #AccessEquity #LevelUP #EUhealthUnion #EUsolidarity #EU2024BE
Yesterday, we were honoured to be a part of the EU #CriticalMedicinesAlliance launch, represented by 15 of our member CEOs. We thank them for their commitment and dedication to ensuring a secure supply of medicines in Europe. Over 90% of the EU critical medicines list are essential, #GenericMedicines. They need dedicated policy actions to secure their supply, including: 💊A concrete shortage prevention-strategy 🤝Partnership between the EU and our industry 🔓A shared commitment to ensure access, availability and supply security based on EU solidarity.
