FYI - a useful free IOSH seminar for my past contacts below - Key topic for H&S professionals keen around progression in the field 😛 Take it easy all!
I wanted to let you all know on the 14th June I’ll be delivering a free seminar for the IOSH South West Branch on career progression, in the Health and Safety sector and how it’s changed. I get asked a lot about qualification options, changes to the NEBOSH diploma and changes to the IOSH membership levels and so decided to try and clarify some common questions. My aim is to give my thoughts, talk about my journey and help direct people (be that those starting out or looking for the PhD or Fellow badge) Please share far and wide and hopefully see some of you there! We are seeing more and more courses being advertised in our sector, especially in Fire and Smoke Control Dampers, and are continually being asked “what’s the difference?” So we thought we would re-share this blog to help: https://lnkd.in/epDbGkUX When looking at courses and qualifications, now the 2010 Building Regulations have been updated, specifically for competence requirements (as of 1st October 2023), it’s important to ask: Courses delivered by an appropriately qualified and knowledgeable instructor can provide valuable knowledge and are a great addition to a qualification, but does the course alone make me legally compliant? Does the course contain National Occupational Standards (NOS) to prove competence and compliance of the individual? (The Skills and Knowledge required by law) Can the course be achieved or is it simply attendance based? Is it approved and regulated by an awarding body? Does it contain the current standards, required to prove competency for my working role? We are always happy to provide advice and guidance to anyone trying to navigate legalisation, and how it applies to them and their training needs.

Careers Consultants & Advisors: There's still time to sign up to one of the key training events in the AGCAS calendar, whether you are a CEIGHE registrant or not! Join us for Guidance Skills (Advanced) in June for a deep-dive into your guidance practice in a supportive and welcoming environment. It's a chance to address any 'bad habits' you might have developed and/or expand your toolkit of skills and techniques. You spend a great deal of the course working in small tutor groups where, I have to admit, there's a lot of laughter as well as discussion, reflection and observation. Need dusting? Need stretching? You need GSA. 😉 Need to know more? There's the link below, and you can also speak to Erica Imhof at AGCAS, myself, Janie Angell or Kate Dwyer.
