IMAX Corp (NYSE:IMAX) stock was boosted Wednesday as Christopher Nolan’s movie #Oppenheimer helped drive the immersive big screen #cinema brand to better-than-expected quarterly financial results – it posted a $12 million profit versus a $9 million loss this time last year.
Importantly, revenue soared to $102.9 million, representing a 51% surge on the $68.8 million banked in the third quarter of 2022, and came in ahead of analyst forecasts pitched at $100.6 million.
Earnings (adjusted EBITDA per share) were reported at 35 cents per share, easily exceeding Wall Street predictions for 22 cents.
In terms of gross box office sales, IMAX saw a total of $347 million globally, which marks it as the second-best quarter in the company’s history.

This is a slide defining New York's Media & Entertainment sector in 2012.
At that time, M&E in New York employed ~275k people and generated more than $80bn in revenues.
One big media sector is missing and not even mentioned as a bullet point - games!
At that time, it was not even, as they say, an "out-of-scope sub-sector".
Now a +$200BN market.
This is mainly a reminder to myself that even if the opportunity might look small(ish) in the here and now, the world is changing (hello electrical cars)

This Harvard Business Review article is almost 20 years old and still rings true highlighting the power of a blue ocean strategy. Take a read to learn how Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group decided that "...instead of following the conventional logic of outpacing the competition by offering a better solution to the given problem—creating a circus with even greater fun and thrills—it redefined the problem itself by offering people the fun and thrill of the circus and the intellectual sophistication and artistic richness of the theater..."

The sports-video-production industry is constantly changing, and there's not a topic that's evolving as quickly as IP. From LTN's point of view, a handful of products and their main mission is to be there for customers who are undergoing this transition and alleviate any pressures dealt by those tapping into remote-based workflows.
At the 2023 SVG Remote Production Forum, LTN's CTO Brad Wall breaks down a handful of updates to the company's IP offerings, how they can better serve their sports clients after meeting with them at the IBC Show 2023, and where he sees this sector heading in the next year.

NGL, 2023 was a challenge!
The production industry saw veterans close their doors, competition on pitches at an all-time high, and a cost of living crisis to top it all off. Let’s just say for film production, it was a bumpy ride.
But despite that, we’re still here, still producing incredible work and I’m proud to say still making bigger and better things every year.
Here are some of my fav moments from 2023.
🚀 Launching DOMA, our new full-service post-production company. Come say hey if you’re looking for post-production partners! We’ve got nice suites and DASH Water on tap!
🇺🇸 Finishing the year on a high producing a TVC for a luxury American gym brand out in LA. Would like some more of these, please!
📈 Watching members of Pavilion Works and DOMA team take on new challenges and grow! Nothing more rewarding than seeing someone continue to realise their potential.
😎 Working for new clients and agencies such as Spotify, eBay, dunhill, Nike Jordan, Uncommon Creative Studio, BYTE/DEPT®, Alexandra Palace and Park and more!
✨ Seeing another side of the industry! Launching a post-arm has meant connecting with more production companies. Before we set up DOMA, competition often kept these connections at bay but thankful to be making new friends in this space.
So 2023, you weren't all bad, in fact, you were pretty alright and sometimes it takes a cheesy Linkedin post you swore you'd never do, to realise that.
2024, let's be having you!
