My only surprise at reading this by Bruce J Beaton is that anyone would be surprised? For sure there is a lot of context missing but the investment decisions (both in people and operational procedures) that got this business to here, were made years ago. I don’t think they were genuine mistakes either; rather it is part of a wider and deliberate strategy of changing the entire purchasing and ownership experience. But it is also worth noting that too many consumers are complicit in this process; complaining that their high street is a ghost town whilst purchasing everything on Amazon, is an example; not wanting to pay people what they are worth is another. However it does also present opportunities for those observing the masses and doing the opposite, in all asset markets; including automotive. Those confident enough to point out to consumers that the price of the asset they are purchasing is largely irrelevant; the value is priced into the asset itself. If you want to deal with professionals though, that price is added on top; you pays your money and you takes your choice!,,,,
