The Power of Shared Value for Small Businesses: A Path to Sustainable Success As small business owners, we are constantly seeking ways to grow and succeed in a competitive market. However, we often overlook the importance of shared value in pursuit of profit. Shared value is the idea of creating value for both our businesses and the communities we serve. It is a concept that is deeply rooted in various religious traditions, including Islam and Judaism. In the Koran, it is written, "And We have made you (mankind) a moderate nation, so that you may be witnesses over the people, and the Messenger may be a witness over you." (2:143) This verse emphasizes the importance of balance and moderation in our pursuit of success. By creating shared value, we can achieve a balance between our business goals and the needs of our community. Similarly, in the Talmud, it is written, "Deeds of kindness are equal in weight to all the commandments." (Bava Bathra 9a) This teaching highlights the importance of acts of kindness and generosity in our business practices. By prioritizing shared value, we can demonstrate our commitment to kindness and generosity, and create a positive impact on our community. So, how can small businesses create shared value? Here are a few strategies to consider: - Partner with local organizations to support community development projects - Invest in employee development and well-being programs - Develop products or services that address specific community needs - Prioritize sustainable and environmentally-friendly practices By creating shared value, small businesses can: - Build strong relationships with customers and stakeholders - Enhance their reputation and brand - Attract and retain top talent - Drive innovation and growth In conclusion, shared value is a powerful concept that can help small businesses achieve sustainable success while making a positive impact on their communities. Let us embrace this approach and strive to create value for all. #SharedValue #SmallBusiness #Sustainability #CommunityFirst

I believe that relying on limited government tax revenues and individual efforts, such as donations, is not sufficient to address the most serious, long-term social problems. These approaches are unsustainable. In contrast, profit-driven businesses have the incentive to reduce costs and improve efficiency, which allows them to achieve economies of scale and commercialize solutions. This enables solutions to be self-sustaining, rather than requiring continuous external support.

I couldn’t agree more Elvin Yu. The concept of #sharedvalue helps eliminate the single-actor mindset in the corporate business landscape and underscores the many benefits of partnership amongst business owners, government, and social groups in building a successful business model - key to sustainable socioeconomic growth and development. This new thinking is especially relevant as hard-to-abate industries are increasingly scaling back on investment in green technologies that impacts their “profits”. #sustainability #BusinessSolutions #growth #creatingsharedvalue

There are some folks that you meet and immediately click with and feel kindred experience. That has been my friendship with Stephanie Evergreen. So I was honored when she invited me to blog on her Evergreen Empire Bearing Fruit blog about wise council and the many (many) questions I ask and support I seek as we journey on to Our Next at Mirror Group LLC. Check it out if you too are setting a strong foundation and infrastructure for your business to endure for the long-term. And please drop a line to share what resonated with you most or what you have questions about. #businessownership #ceomindset
Everybody needs a council. A board of advisors. Or, in Mindelyn Anderson’s view, a Scale and Sustain Seven. Here’s who is on her board and what questions she asks each role to keep her business ethical and sustainable. https://lnkd.in/gqjKMHpn

Who or what is your why? For me, it’s simple—my son. 💙 Every day, I’m driven to create a more equitable and just world where he, and others like him, are treated with fairness, respect, and value. In our relationship, I strive to show him what that looks like. We practice consent, love, and positive communication, laying the foundation for a future where kindness and equality thrive. Being a full-time entrepreneur and workplace DEI consultant has its challenges, but being his mom and biggest cheerleader will always be my favorite roles. It’s a reminder that the work I do isn’t just about now; it’s about shaping a world where all our children can grow up and be seen for who they truly are.
