How do you choose what swag and flyers to have at an event? I still remember the first "event" I worked as a marketer for. We had a table at the local street fair to support the town where our office was located. It was a fall event, and I put a lot of thought into what swag items would be good for a family event. I eventually went with light-up orange balls with jack-o-lantern faces for the kids and flashing light pins for adults who ran after dusk. They were both a big hit. Unfortunately, the flyer that was chosen for our table was a big dud. It was decided to showcase our Annual Report. I don't remember whose idea it was, but the local families didn't care about our earnings. However, there was a brief article in the report on the recent ground-breaking of our massive entertainment mixed-use project. So, I used that article to talk to people during the event. The lesson? You need to be intentional in choosing your items for events. They should be tailored to your audience. For instance, if you are attending ICSC Red River, stop by the Coldwell Banker Commercial booth and pick up a copy of our inaugural Trend Report on the evolution of retail. #cremarketinglife

Do you actually want swag from another company? I've had some great companies that went out of their way to send me some company swag. It was really thoughtful, very kind, and I never once used the product they sent. Why? Because I didn't want to walk around carrying something for a company I decided not to work with. So it makes me ask the question if swag is worth it. I know it's a massive industry but I'm curious if any of us really want it. Is there a space where we could be spending our company dollars that would go above and beyond and provide #unreasonablehospitality? I do enjoy my BombBomb swag because I work for the company but I don't think I ever want something from outside companies. Thoughts? Do you want swag from another company?
