Perhaps you saw it or felt it? September, Labor Day, and summer all-in-one activity or gathering with family and friends or a quiet moment said it all. Endings and beginnings of friendships or business activities came to a crashing halt or a hectic start as there is always Tuesday after Labor Day. Because I taught school for several years, September feels like the New Year of thinking, writing and activities. As a result, my New Year for coaching activities begins today. Postings will occur every two weeks and video's in between. My emphasis will continue to be the truth that the success of any organization is based on its humans and their health and wellness as appreciated by their leaders. When I underwent my own coaching process, I uncovered a significant limiting belief: the idea that asking questions is invading someone else’s privacy. This self-imposed judgment not only hindered my progress as a recruiter and more recently, as an advisor and coach. It also prevented me from being a better friend, sister, and mother. Since I discovered this limiting belief, I've been challenging myself to change it. I've been asking myself: What other perspectives can I consider? What do I gain by maintaining this belief? What benefits does it bring me? What does it cost me? What would happen if I dared to be more inquisitive? I've seen this image on social media a few times and I 💜 it. The importance of more compassionate self-talk reminded me of a client I worked with. 💡 They shared how they wanted to use coaching to support being more assertive. 💡Through further exploration the client described a specific type of 'moment' they wanted to be more assertive. Sharing how this would help them move out of their comfort zone and support their personal and professional development. 💡 They discovered in those critical 'moments', they needed to hear more compassionate self talk like 'you can do this', 'what's the worst that can happen' to support them, when the voice of self doubt would also be loud and present. 💜 Nicer, kinder and compassionate self-talk can make the world of difference on how we feel, on our energy and on our outlook.
