Starting a relationship with a new factory is an exciting but nuanced journey. It's crucial to understand the dynamics from the very beginning. Initially, you might need the factory more than they need you, which requires respecting their existing client commitments and timelines. Here are a few key points to keep in mind: Patience is essential: They might not work as quickly as you'd like, especially at first. Remember, they are balancing multiple clients. Sample costs: Factories may charge for samples since they are unsure of your long-term potential as a client. So giving a factory a very clear brief, with all the details they need set out in a technical pack, will help you to avoid unnecessary costs and time delays. Production scheduling: Your samples and orders will fit into their current workload, which may not align perfectly with your desired timelines. Lead times: These depend on their capacity planning. Initial lead times might fluctuate based on their schedule. Trial orders: The best way to start a relationship with a new factory is to place a trial order, ideally on one of your existing best selling styles and ideally over and above you current stock needs. Don't put pressure on the factory or on yourself trying to fill an urgent stock requirement with a new factory. It's normal to feel frustrated at the start, but investing time and effort to understand and align with their processes can pave the way for a strong, respectful, and eventually prioritised relationship. By laying a solid foundation, showing patience, and being willing to invest up front, you'll earn their trust and loyalty. Over time, you'll move from being just another client to a valued partner. MOQ: The Order Size That Matters Ever wondered why suppliers have a minimum order amount? That’s MOQ, or Minimum Order Quantity. It’s the smallest number of items a supplier is willing to sell at a time. Why does it matter? Well, it affects your budget and how much stuff you can stock. Order more, often means paying less per item. But order too much, and you might end up with a warehouse full of stuff you can’t sell! Plus, building a good relationship with your supplier is easier when you meet their order minimums. Dealing with big minimum orders? Don’t stress! Build a good relationship with your supplier, show them you’re serious about their products, and start small to prove you’re reliable. You might be surprised how willing they are to be flexible. Stock FAQs: 1. Do I need to purchase stock in bulk for your warehouse? You have options: You can manage it yourself, or we can take care of it on your behalf. Many of our clients prefer us to handle sourcing because we secure better pricing and manage the factory intricacies, allowing them to concentrate on sales. 2. Should I order a large amount to your warehouse? If your daily orders aren't consistent, purchasing as per demand is suitable, with products typically arriving within 1-3 days. However, if your demand is stable, you might consider buying stock that lasts for 3-5 days' worth of use each time.
