❗ !! LinkedIn friends & fam !! ❗ I'm putting out an all call. Help is majorly needed (and especially from those out-of-the-box thinkers), and I think y'all are the people to turn to. Been meaning to do this since January, so here goes nothin. Fair warning: I'm not following the typical "favor formula" where I ask for something MASSIVE to then ask something small - we're starting with THE ask. 💡 THE ask: If you were trying to raise at least $3,500 *every month* to cover essential needs and costs, how would you do it? How would you find people to donate monthly? Who would you reach out to? Seriously - any and all brainstorms (or volunteers to help!) will be much appreciated. Some context, if you're still here: Sharing Hope Africa is a nonprofit that we started to partner with locally developed projects, initiatives, and businesses in Eswatini and Mozambique. Our goal is educate, equip, and empower communities - through advocacy and fundraising for solutions local nonprofits are already developing. When we started this NGO, our goal was ALWAYS to work with communities to develop sustainable solutions that are NOT reliant on donations (still is). We started by working with two projects that were previously funded and abandoned by another US nonprofit (which has since been dissolved). Sharing Hope Preschool serves 60+ children in vulnerable situations in rural Mozambique and employs ~10 local staff. Sharing Hope Farm is an employer in Siteki, Eswatini with the potential to be an agricultural learning hub; we're making investments to grow the farm so it isn't reliant on donations. Both projects were started locally and have long term goals of moving away from donation-reliant structures. At this moment though: We're struggling to cover monthly operational costs (food for the preschoolers and medicine if they have malaria, salaries for teachers and farmers and other staff, school supplies or farm supplies) for the school and farm, to keep things at a steady state. If we can't fundraise the full amount on a monthly basis come June, we will have to send kids home from the preschool. The farm - that's a whole other conversation. We need to be focusing on the long term - and we WANT to - but life is a helluva lot more complicated than that. We can only to do that (especially as a volunteer team) when the current needs are fulfilled, especially where health and wellness of children are concerned. So - again, I ask (very open to ANY ideas): If you were trying to raise at least $3,500 *every month* to cover essential needs and costs (primarily for children in vulnerable situations), how would you do it? As we head into the week, let's have some reflection on what we are grateful for. After reading this story from #KRDA , I'm grateful for the privilege of safety 🌟 Meet John, a resilient 13-year-old from Kibera who balances school, his own ambitions, and helping his family 💙 Picture this: a busy day of lessons, training, new friends and new experiences in Grade 7 at school. It's 4:30 pm and time to go home. You then board the bus back to the Kibera slums; your home. As the other kids head home to do chores and homework, you find your mother having prepared groundnuts to go sell in the busy and dangerous night time highways of Nairobi to supplement the family's income, leaving no time to rest, complete your homework, or enjoy the simplicities of childhood. 🌃 This is John's reality. Navigating these overpopulated, dangerous roads is a part of his daily routine. Pedestrians account for 64.5% of all traffic fatalities, translating to an estimated 320 pedestrians dying annually. The greatest danger to a pedestrian’s life in Nairobi is a private car. To help John KRDA has faced up to these challenges and created the Homework Hub in #ACKGoodSamaritanSchool. This has generated a safe space where he can finish his assignments before facing the hazards of the night. Now, his grades are rising, and he never misses an assignment. 📚 While we can't solve all the issues and dangers of the world, we can create these safe spaces and allow opportunities of education to reduce the impacts of systematic poverty. By empowering women as producers and suppliers of nutritious food for schools, we not only enhance food security but also bolster economic opportunities for women, contributing to their empowerment and the overall prosperity of communities. 🌟 "A well planned task is half done." 🌟 I'm thrilled to share the success of our recent five-day co-creation workshop for the FY25 Planning and Budgeting (P&B)! 🎉 Together with the ten partner NGOs from the Madhesh, Bagmati, and Koshi provinces, over 30 dedicated PNGO staff collaborated intensively on deciding and reflecting on findings from community consultations for the FY25 planning sheet. In times of crisis, the power of unrestricted funds becomes abundantly clear. Because of this trust from our supporters, our in-country partner Nishtha could respond swiftly to the devastation of Cyclone Remal. The flexibility of unrestricted funding has allowed us to: • Provide emergency shelter for 700-800 girls, including 100 in Nishtha's office • Coordinate with local landlords and government offices for additional accommodation • Supply essential food and educational materials • Arrange catch-up classes with teachers to minimise disruption to education While schools have reopened, many girls, especially those from affected islands, are unable to attend. Our priority is ensuring these girls don't fall behind in their studies while also addressing their immediate needs. 🌪 As the monsoon season approaches, bringing potential further challenges, we're committed to supporting these communities for as long as necessary. Mary’s Meals is supporting over 2.4 million children, in more than 5,000 places of education, across 18 countries every school day. The majority of children we support are in sub-Saharan Africa, but we also work in Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean, and the Middle East. We have programme affiliates in Malawi, Liberia, Zambia, and Kenya who work to deliver school feeding directly, while in other countries we work through partner organisations. In Malawi and Kenya, our school feeding is delivered by both programme affiliate staff and partner organisations. Our work is strongly focused on the belief that every child has the right to enough food to eat. The meals we provide are also a powerful incentive that attract chronically hungry children into school and other places of education, offering a possible escape route from poverty. It is estimated that there are still 67 million children of primary school age (roughly six to 11 years) who are out of school today. We support this message wholeheartedly. Education is one of our passion points at Thinkerneur. We have an initiative called the “Impact Learning Initiative” at Thinkerneur, and we would love to partner with you Lillian Henderson and BIC. The purpose of the Impact Learning Initiative is to nourish the desire for education and inspire an insatiable appetite and outlook for the future through learning and education. We go to school and help young learners start connecting the dots between their futures and education. There are so many factors that contribute to learner drop out, one of the ones we’ve identified, is that of lack of connection between education today and a future successful self. Learners don’t believe nor see how being resilient in the years that they are at school will help them in the future. This is a mindset issue, so we go to school to inspire and give perspective to students. You can either partner with us on our school visits or we can tag along your school visits. All children need to be valued, loved, safe (including culturally), healthy, participating, learning and to have enough for the basics. But not all Queensland children have the conditions to support this. Queensland Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Children experience more exclusion, poverty, violence and other environments that work against thriving. That’s why we are calling for more Deadly Kindies and early years hubs. A partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities that gives community control is crucial to deliver these. Putting Queensland Kids First's $15 million partnerships fund and early years hubs at Aurukun and Kowanyama are a good start and a lot more is needed. https://lnkd.in/gmXyqAsY
