Last week's dinner co-hosting experience with Builders was a transformative journey, reminding me of the profound impact conversations can have when they evolve into action! Rewind to Pavilion GTM 2023: a serendipitous encounter with Seba Dominguez at a whiskey tasting sparked a strong connection, revealing shared business models, career paths, and personal backgrounds. Fast forward to May in Austin, where Christopher Gannon and Seba's bond strengthened, igniting the idea of hosting a dinner in NYC. When we connected again, the plan came together quickly. Venue Booked ✅ Invites sent ✅ No worries ✅ As someone who had previously only been an attendee of dinners, doubts crept in about orchestrating such an event effectively and efficiently. Yet, Seba's infectious can-do attitude propelled us forward. The evening unfolded seamlessly, with 12 of us gathering at Catch 🐟 to share not only a delicious meal but also candid conversations about our families, favorite restaurants, and the challenges of navigating early start ups. It was everything a dinner should be: effortless and enriching. Three main takeaways for me: 🤝 The Power of Community: Witnessing founders rallying around one another, offering support and encouragement only after just having met, was nothing short of inspiring. 🙌 People Want to Help: By being open and vulnerable, we unearthed unexpected commonalities and discovered innovative solutions to shared challenges. 🌟 Just Dive In: Sometimes, you have to take the leap and trust that the evening will unfold naturally, paving the way for meaningful connections and collaborations. While I regret not capturing the moment with a 📸, I was happy to be fully present. I'm eager to cheer on the incredible individuals I met as they embark on their respective journeys, fueled by the momentum of our shared experience. Amazing to chat with everyone Amy Wu Shannon Wu Jane Tran Kiet Tran, FRM Rom Carmel 🚀 Fernanda Baggio Aaron Surloff Jack Winston Dani Van de Sande Andrew Joseph Sam Schwager Here's to more words evolving into action and forging deeper connections within our entrepreneurial community. #CommunityPower #ActionSpeaksLouder

🚙 Nate Dunning was just a freshman at Occidental College when he and his collegiate soccer teammate, Ethan Glass, set out to solve the problem of parking near the Los Angeles Coliseum. They started out as day-lease event parking operators who maximized revenue by listing parking spaces across as many third-party reservation platforms ("aggregators") as possible. To continue to scale the company, Nate led the creation of a reliable internal software tool that made managing multiple aggregators more efficient, prevented slippage and misuse, & saved hours of employee training. When COVID-19 hit, events stopped, and Nate and Ethan faced a choice: give up or see if their internal tool could benefit other parking operators. The founders chose to find out. On our blog, learn how Nate's journey to product market fit helped make Ocra what it is today. Nougat Ninjas: Rolling Out Change At Stuckey’s, we may be 87 years young, but we’re in startup mode. Here’s our CEO, RG Lamar, and shift leader, Anthony Thomas, perfecting the nougat for our famous pecan log rolls. Don’t worry—we’re keeping the classic recipe folks love, but even the sweetest traditions need a reboot. In the words of Brian Chesky, co-founder of Airbnb, "We need to get comfortable with being uncomfortable. We're in the business of disrupting things, and that means we have to embrace change constantly." Whether you’re in tech or candy, innovation is where it’s at. Three generations after my grandfather started Stuckey’s, we’re still rolling out the log rolls—but soon with a twist. Staying true to our roots while embracing new ideas is how we keep this legacy alive & thriving for generations to come. Go team Stuckey’s! 💪 #Innovation #Creativity #Teamwork

Preparing for Meldfest. Tomorrow Meldsters will come in from Perth, Melbourne, Sydney and Canberra to spend three days connecting, sharing our work and exploring Meld’s direction together. In an business environment that makes time and space to reflect feel like a luxury rather than a necessity, we know from experience that this dedicated togetherness across location provides more collective cohesion than any ‘work from the office’ mandate ever could. Setting the strategic direction of the business together is a critical part of being employee-owned by trust. Meldsters have a right to collectively shape our direction and ensure we are aligning with our mission especially while balancing the tricky realities of the contexts we operate within. 👉 Day one will be entirely dedicated to storytelling from each Meldster and appreciating what we’ve collectively learned out in the field – sharing an aspect of a project or practice that has had impact and that the rest of Meld would benefit from knowing. 👉 Day two will be dedicated to our Meldster Council setting our strategy – the space where we as employee owners will reflect on the needs and challenges (organisational, sector / industry, transitions) that would benefit from Meld’s partnership. We’ll also reflect on our commitments to each other, how we work and show up, and how we’ll take on the important challenges ahead, together. 👉 Day three will connect us to Country - we’ll be taking an Aboriginal Cultural Tour in Barangaroo Reserve and learning about the importance of Warrane (Sydney Harbour). Through it all, we will be reminding ourselves of our mission, why we choose to come together as a collective and work with a diverse range of people, contexts, environments and organisations through complex challenges. As Meld turns 15 at the end of 2024, it is particularly poignant for us to think about how we can best spend our time to have the most impact. Thank you to our clients and Meldsters, past and present, for creating the opportunities for Meld to contribute towards equitable, sustainable and just futures. What would you advise us to think about and focus on? #DesigningBetterFuturesTogether

Entering 2024, I find myself deeply immersed in profound reflection on the extraordinary journey of the past year StarBoard Solution. We not only surpassed our loftiest aspirations but also revelled in a ground-breaking surge in sales, primarily attributed to a robust Q1 and a revolutionary, colossal Q4 – a historic juncture for us! Taking on the challenge in 2019, relocating to Berlin, was no small feat. Previously, I had been working for the Starboard group with more focused territories & projects. Moving into this role, which I had undertaken in the past for other international companies, filled me with a mix of trepidation & excitement. Year after year, I've demonstrated that earning my moniker as the "Red Cross" was not just a title; it is my calling. Looking back now, I can see why our board chose me for this endeavour. I hold a deep love for projects, a sentiment echoed by many in our industry after decades in one field. This particular project was especially close to my heart, given the long legacy with Hitachi from my time with eBeam. It came full circle as Hitachi’s first whiteboard incorporated an eBeam device, and Hitachi’s decision to choose our factory out of all the top factories in the world to grow their Interactive flat panel brand & eventually sell to us as an independent brand felt like coming full circle—I'm truly grateful to have held the mantle. Of course, we are not the largest player on the scene but we certainly rank among the top 20 brands climbing year on year. Midway through 2023 was the year I finally found my core team, both in structure and technical character. This recipe is now my bible; the roles and skills are entirely different from when I first embarked on these projects. All of us old "AVenites", I call the OG’s (original gangsters), previously relied on the interactive tech being separate from IT. In the last few years, we all had to cross the bridge and learn a new language as panels were the same with IT and AV in one, the old way was no longer suitable, which meant our business model had to transform to keep up. Despite our team being compact, it is nothing short of formidable. Fearless and knowledgeable, each member possesses a deep understanding of our products. It is this expertise that has brought us to this pivotal moment. Finally, we have assembled a team with a skill set capable of conquering any international tender, dissecting it with precision to unearth our finest attributes. Looking ahead, the challenges may be formidable, but our collective strength, passion, and unwavering commitment will continue to propel us toward greater heights. Together, we have built not just a team but a force to be reckoned with, ready to conquer new horizons in the coming year. Here's to embracing the challenges and celebrating the achievements that await us in 2024.

Lots of people talk about the damage of the wrong co-founders and let the assumption stand that as long as you don’t choose them everything will be okay. Why don’t more people talk about the magic of finding the perfect co-founders? And how to fuse them together in a way that makes a startup much stronger than the sum of its parts? Why don’t more people talk about finding the most powerful thing that you can build into the heart of your startup before it’s even a thing? Tonight Our CEO is speaking at Aussie Founders Club on exactly that, and we expect he’ll challenge a few conventions on how to pick, pay and bond with co-founders in a wholly unprofessional but deeply necessary way. He’ll also share stories about the amazing people that almost became Maslow’s co-founders, and how there’s no shame in acknowledging that the fit isn’t always right. We date people before we choose life partners…. Why shouldn’t we date them before we choose business partners? Come along! Tickets below.

We've hit an exciting milestone with Fairway 54. Our two locations are thriving, and we're eager to grow. The challenge? Even though we're doing well, financing our expansion isn't straightforward. We've got enough to consider opening a third location on our own, but to really accelerate growth the way we envision, we're looking at needing a bit more financial muscle. That's where we're at: pondering the idea of outside funding. Not in the realm of those headline-grabbing funding rounds, but something that makes sense for a small business like ours, aiming to bring more of what we love to people. So, I'm reaching out for some community wisdom. If you've faced a similar juncture, how did you navigate it? Did you partner up, seek investors, or maybe go down the franchising route? We're all in on expanding the joy of golf through what we've built, and figuring out the best way to do that is our current puzzle. Would love to hear your experiences or any pointers you have. Keeping our essence while making those big moves—how did you manage it? #SmallBusinessGrowth #StartupFunding #GolfEntrepreneur

Founder, PropertyAngels.Life | ANGELS NETWORK | Fin-PropTech Co-Founder & Investor, COHO | Creator of the HMO Summit & Awards
😅 A tall gent approached me saying, "You changed my life!" with an American accent... anywhere else, this could have been mistaken as a cheesy chat up line but I was at a professional networking environment, a recent #Rent2Rent and #Rent2SA Super Conference in London. 'Hi, how?', I responded, trying to trace where I would know him from. "We switched software to using COHO and it's literally changed our life.", he continued. I recognised the surname Hubbard, but hadn't spoken to Jeffrey Hubbard or his wife Anne Ndeti Hubbard who are based in Northampton, before. When I asked how long he'd been using our #property management software, he said just 2 weeks ago. It really sunk in that our #HMO property and mixed portfolio operating system could have such an impact so quickly! Thank you Jeff and Anne for these super powerful quotes I received from you. It gives me great joy and the team are proud to have you as our customers. 😊 'COHO not only helps us manage our portfolio, it is helping us to design our business.' 😊 'We were scarcely aware of the management headaches we had... until we moved over to COHO! A weight has been lifted.' 😊 'Life changing? Well yes. My business nurtures my life, and COHO changed my business.' 😊 'Each and every feature is so carefully thought through.' ▶️ Yesterday, we met up on Zoom and recorded an interview for the new #COHOChampions campaign. Look out for this episode coming soon, to find out more about Jeff and Anne's inspiring journey in property so far, which began in the thick of the first Covid-19 lockdown. 💡And I remember now where I saw their name before! They were nominated for the #RentToRent Business award at The HMO Awards 23/24 🙌 Finally, a quick mention to Simon Smith and his team for the brilliant #R2RSuperConf event! #coho #hmoawards #propertyinvestors #propertydevelopment #propertymanagement #propertyinvestment #landlords #coliving #lettings #R2R #studentlets #socialhousing #professionallets
