Sales doesn’t care about your past. I can count on one hand the number of people that said they wanted to be a salesperson when they grew up. But I know a lot of people that say they wish they had discovered their sales career sooner. I think that times and the perception of a sales career are changing though. And that means that good sales roles are even more competitive. If you want to stand out then have a think about why sales is a skill that you want to learn. The best candidates can always articulate this clearly. And it’s crucial if you want to find a role in the current job market PS. I wish I’d found a sales career sooner myself #salescareer #yourwhysales

Asking for a Degree for a sales job... really?? There are very few scenerios in which I can get my head around a degree 'requirement' for sales roles. It may be a preference in some cases, especially more junior positions where the experience isn't there yet, but if there is a super relevant candidate who you WON'T even consider due to having no degree then you really are at risk of failing your duty to hire the best people for the job. Its moronic. Its outdated. Its counterproductive. It's far better to consider a candidates fit based on their skills, attitude, industry knowledge, and track record in my opinion. Do you agree?

Hardest job I ever had? Door to door sales 🙃 🐎 It wasn't the Olympic yards I worked in, 16 hour days, 6 days a week, with $250 in my pocket at the end of it. 🍺 It wasn't the West Auckland bar, as a young woman working as a glassie, with questionable characters who "just want to get to know me". 😷It wasn't my Recruitment role during a global pandemic when the world literally stopped and no one knew what was going to happen next. Although those jobs had their moments too, it was Door to Door Sales that was simultaneously the hardest, and best job I've ever had. No, I didn't love my D2D job, it wasn't fun, it wasn't paying much (commission only), and some of the things I "sold" didn't align with my values and passions. But I took this job because I knew, after working on farms for 5 years, I needed something on my CV that would stand out to a prospective employer in a new industry, that could show them I had resilience, interpersonal skills, and drive. And it worked. I stayed for 9 months (considered a long stint in our team of 50), and at the end of it I finally got a coveted "office job" in customer service. My career took off from there 🙌 Till this day, the Door to Door Sales job I had back in the early 2010's still catches attention when I speak about my career journey. And the lessons I learned in sales back then I still refer to today - I wouldn't be where I am without those 9 months in the worst/best job I've ever had! If you're looking for a change in career or just starting out, I'm not saying that you should rush off and get a D2D job 😅 but I urge you to take it back to basics, think about the core skills you'll need in your future desired career. Are there roles you're overlooking that can build the foundation and help you reach that coveted role you desire?
