A fascinating new documentary highlighting the unique connection between The Salvation Army Australia and the silver screen premiered in The Palms at our Crown Melbourne property last week. It was another special opportunity for the Crown Resorts Foundation to support our longstanding relationship with The Salvation Army and provide them with the perfect space to showcase this interesting piece of history from their archives. We were so proud to have many of our own team members involved in the night from hosting the event, to using their voices to form part of the film’s narration. You can learn more about how the exciting project was brought to life on The Salvation Army website and continue supporting their important mission to make a difference in our communities. https://lnkd.in/giu5jAFR

In Valdosta, Georgia, where the winds of Helene sent towering pine trees crashing into homes and lawns, our army of volunteers is bringing hope In Jesus' Name. If you would like to be boots on the ground in Helene's path we encourage you to consider serving with our Valdosta team! We praise God that he has provided an abundance of incredible volunteers at our western N.C. response sites. However, we are still in need of day volunteers at all sites and overnight volunteers in Georgia and Florida! Visit https://bit.ly/3zFGCU3 to learn more about serving in Valdosta!

Founder @ DASH / Sharing memories through online graphic design video editing and printing …so easy a grandma can do it!
Juneteenth On June 19, 1865 the Union Army arrived in Texas and notified Texas officials that slavery was officially over. Even though the institution of slavery had existed for millennia, our nation’s birth happened at a time that world consciousness finally began to see it as unacceptable —thank God! Imagine being born in a time when slavery was just a part of life? How we have grown as a planet. And each generation will continue to grow. Ending the institution of slavery in America came at the cost of hundreds of thousands of lives, but it was the price that the supporters of slavery required. And it was the price anti-slavery soldiers paid…a necessary sacrifice for ending an evil institution that existed for thousands of years in world history at-large. #freedom #antislavery #EmancipationDay On this, I do have a theory about how our future decendants will judge first world countries for outsourcing to less developed nations for cheaper labor. Mark my words. Today’s world will be judged by tomorrow’s world for it.

The United States Marine Corps Commandant, General Eric Smith, presented a great civilian model for #resilience. Great meeting and perfect timing with #IndependenceDay. What will help America move forward and stay ahead? It’s not a “me” mentality on how much can I make, how much can I sell, how much can I buy. General Smith made this abundantly clear immediately as well as wove it through his presentation and answers to questions. Our nation has acted with collaboration in times of #disaster. Post #Hurricane Katrina, the nation (and world) came to the aid of the City of New Orleans to rebuild and renew. How did that happen? People #respond to what matters to them. Though the greater #community deployed with a nation of #service mentality – it’s not just #ArmedForces or #FirstResponders. While we need those who answer that call on a 24/7/365 basis, we need to have everyone thinking about others every day. It can be small as in a small act of kindness – sharing an explanation to a neighbor child on your expertise, giving your old books for a non-profit sale that supports their mission, dedicating time to feed the hungry at an outreach event. (See the trend: in no way is it all about the Benjamins – aka money for my non-American network.) #ForceDesign has many meanings – words are important. It’s how you integrate with others that makes the whole #stronger. While we each have special talents, another recent LinkedIn post about hope used the phrase “it’s a belief in all of us over none of us.” (Amen, Misaha Suzuki Graham.) Another post discussed overcoming horrible circumstances and coming back together “trying different methods and approaches.” (Inspiration and eloquence while recognizing historical pain, Van Jones.) How do you give strength to what makes America different from all other nations and distinguishes our democracy from other models? Thank you, The Brookings Institution, for another thought-provoking inspiring discussion! Visit here to view the replay: https://lnkd.in/gzk2Df42

It tells the story of the daring WWII rescue of over 500 American POWs from a Japanese camp in the Philippines. Here are some key takeaways: 1️⃣ 𝗕𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲: U.S. soldiers risked their lives in one of the most dangerous rescue missions of the war. This story highlights their incredible courage and willingness to face the unknown. As the book review states, "𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗼𝗶𝗰." 2️⃣ 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝗢𝗪𝘀: The prisoners endured unimaginable suffering, but they never lost hope. Their determination to survive, despite the odds, is a central theme in the book. One quote from the review that sums it up well is: "𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗶𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝘂𝗻𝗯𝗿𝗼𝗸𝗲𝗻." 3️⃣ 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸: The success of the mission wasn’t just about individual bravery; it was a true team effort. Everyone, from soldiers on the front lines to those behind the scenes, played a critical role. 4️⃣ 𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗦𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗶𝘁: This story is a testament to the power of the human spirit—whether through the rescuers or the survivors, it shows us what people are capable of when hope and bravery come together. Memorial Day was first designated as Decoration Day in 1868 to honour the fallen soldiers of the Civil War on BOTH sides - Union AND Confederate. It wasn’t made an official holiday though until 1971. Now we acknowledge this special day in the US solely to commemorate those soldiers who have fallen in service to the country in any conflict around the world. Did you know there are certain things you are not supposed to do on Memorial Day? The first and perhaps most important thing is NOT to wish anyone a Happy Memorial Day. It’s not a happy day or a happy holiday. It’s a special day where we recognize the ultimate sacrifice of someone in service to the country. Secondly, you don’t thank a working military person for their service. Again, this day is for fallen soldiers. But you can find ways to recognize the day and remember its true meaning. 🎇Go to a parade if your town has one. 🏛️Visit the Capitol (in person or virtually at Capital.gov). 🎗️Do something for the Armed Services like send care packages or donate to a cause that is important to the Armed Services. 🤫Take a moment of silence at 3pm local time - this is a national initiative. 👨🏻👩🏾👧🏼👦🏽And of course, have picnics or go to the beach with your family to celebrate the freedoms that the fallen have fought for. Whatever you do today, take a moment to remember the meaning of this very special day to honour and remember those who died serving the USA. Have a very special Memorial Day. #FourSquareMindfulness #MemorialDay #MemorialDay2024 #WeRemember #RememberTheFallen #remember #thankful #mindfulness #meditation #MindfulMeditation #gratitude #JustBreathe #LoveIsAVerb #LoveIsActivism #LoveLearningLiberation #DiversityIsOurStrength Photo by Wesley Tingey on Unsplash

You probably imagine who you’d want caring for your kids if something happened to you. 👪 But if you don’t put your plans on paper, the final decision of who will care for your kids, raise them, and manage their money if you die or become incapacitated is left up to a judge who doesn’t know them or your family. ⚖️ Read this week’s blog to learn more. 💻 👀▶️ https://lnkd.in/dbb3G69R #compasslegalplanning #compasslegalplanningOK #estateplanning #willsandtrusts #OKestateplanningattorney #powerofattorney #healthcaredirectives #kidsprotectionplan #assetprotection #buildyourlegacy #familylegacy #outdooradventure #OKmom #OKdad #OKveterans #OKmilitary #guidingfamiliesforward
