Week 1 update: A warm greeting to all my connections! I started my internship dated: 27th May, 2024. But before this, I had been informed that my proposed research topic had been a makeover and I was given new topic with similar essence, and asked whether it suits me or not, as the topic is, "Micro-ATM and milk societies: Impact evaluation and way forward", as it suits my interest area that is micro-finance and my current work of "Intervention of cooperative in empowering women living in rural areas engaged in post-harvest". Meet Valeriia Niekrasova and Alabhya Das who are conducting their internship at Novonesis, a global leader in biosolutions. Specifically, they are working with the Healthy Baking department at the Lyngby office in Denmark.🥐 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐚𝐬𝐤𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐝𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐝𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐲?  We usually spend the first part of our day on market analysis by doing extensive literature and database reviews, and often also have informal interviews with colleagues at Novonesis. Afternoons and evenings are usually for a discussion of how the day’s work informs our next steps for the project and also for a quick break to do some jigsaw puzzles at the coffee stations!☕ 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐚𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭?  Our thesis is about innovation in the functional food industry. Specifically, we are exploring the innovation potential in the (still emerging market of) functional baked goods category. Our goal is to study the dimensions along which innovation value can be generated, as well as an analysis of the specific obstacles to innovation in the functional foods industry.🕵♀️ 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐬𝐨 𝐟𝐚𝐫 𝐝𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐚𝐭 𝐍𝐨𝐯𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐬?  Three key things! First, always reach out. People are excited to help and provide their perspectives, whether in formal meetings or coffee chats.   Second, be adaptable. There is always a perspective you didn’t think to consider, and it’s important to be able to step back and reassess, to have the best results possible. Third, make decisions to achieve the final goal. It is easy to get lost while exploring so much new information, but keeping your focus helps to prioritize. But the main part is to enjoy yourself along the way! Introducing our new colleague: Larissa Markus 🙌 Larissa has joined our team in Oldenburg for her internship in science communication. She already brings valuable skills for this assignment. Her academic background is in Plant Biotechnology, but her major work experience falls under project management and communication management. Before joining us, she volunteered as a science communicator for 3 years. We’re excited to see what she will achieve during her time with us. We asked her a few questions to get to know her better: 📚 What is your favourite popular science book? My favorite science book is Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind by Yuval Noah Harari. It was the first popular science book I ever read, and while I have read equally interesting books by now, this one got my science book journey started and blew my mind when I was 19. 🚂 How do you commute to work? I go by train. I have time to relax, listen to music, and read or draw while it brings me to the office and back home. 🥛 What is your favourite beverage while working? I have always been a water-only girl. On special occasions, I sometimes drink apple juice. 💃📖 What are your hobbies? I love expressing myself through drawing, dancing, and photography. I am also learning embroidery and sewing now. However, reading is still my most cherished pastime. 😍 Why does working at ESCI excite you? Working at ESCI is exciting because I can be creative and try out different communication techniques. I also get to contribute directly to improving the public’s understanding of science. I meet many people and work on various projects, which keep me updated with the latest research. One great learning from my time at Mirchi has been that presentations in the corporate environment are not always often prepared keeping in mind the external audience such as the shareholders, sponsors, and clients. Much of the time, presentations are also prepared to pitch an idea internally to managers and the higher level executives. And these presentations are often created to convey ideas and information in as few words and slides possible. Thus while it is essential to have the know how of the cutting edge tools to prepare presentations, it is also important to sometimes cut back and focus instead on the basics that get the job done. #Mirchi #SummerInternship #BSSSIAS #MBA

Recently, I received the best advice that Manan Jain  gave: "FOMO nahi lene ka" – and it's so true, bhai. I've observed so many people's go-to lines have become: "bhai usne waha internship leli"  "usne FRM clear krliya" "uski 10 CGPA aagyi", and what not. Constantly feeling the need to prove yourself by copying others. But what's the end result? Mental Satisfaction! But what about the Opportunity Cost? The great opportunities lost during that time and the potential skills you could have developed by just working on yourself. Comparing oneself to another's story, where they have different circumstances, achievements and goals. Just increased stress and reduced productivity! Why bother with someone else's journey? Focus on yourself, keep moving forward, and upward. I am not saying that FOMO is completely bad. But the way you take it makes all the difference.  It's you and your priorities that you set for yourself! The first stage of prioritizing occurs when societies ask about preferences, basically which tells the level of effort you're gonna invest over other things but we kinda bluff it. But kab tak bluff kroge boss? As Douglas wisely said, "You do you" Embrace your individuality and set your own path. Everyone is Different 🚀 #collegelife #du #fomo
