It’s been a wild ride witnessing how AI has taken the world by storm – especially how it’s revolutionized the field of marketing 💯 From research and writing, to Excel formulas and content ideation, AI seems to really be able to make the most time-consuming tasks easier for marketers everywhere. But here’s the thing about AI: no matter what good it can do or help, at the end of the day, it’s still artificial and lacking the human-ness that YOU bring to the table. And artificial intelligence can’t create relationships with your customers! It can be tempting to let AI take over all of the tasks that it can. But your voice, human touch, and ability to connect with your audience is something that no machine can ever do. When you go out of your way to keep putting your heart into your business, and make the effort to connect with the people who help you keep it up, you’re more likely to find sustainable success in your field! Alan J. Porter shared his view of AI and its impact on our ability to be storytellers on the Content Matters Podcast. Here's some of what he said. "I think at the moment, it's a technology looking for a solution. I think it's been applied too fast, too quickly, without people really understanding what it is or what it does, or, more importantly, what it doesn't do. But it is here. We are going to have to deal with it. It's a tool. Use it as a tool. It's not a golden bullet, it's not an easy button. It is not creative. It doesn't understand context. It doesn't understand intent. It's basically just an algorithm putting words together based on statistical probabilities.  It can help in terms of generating some ideas, but don't use it to be your final arbiter of what you write and publish. I'm very keen on adopting new technologies, but I think this one's gone too far too quickly for a whole variety of reasons. But I think it is going to be here. It is going to get better. We have to adapt to that. But at the end of the day, I don't think anything will ever replace human creativity. And the thing that for me, that storytelling is about - the word I've used several times already, is about human empathy. You need a human in the loop at some point. I've worked on an AI project in the digital asset space, and that was our constant refrain as we were going through the development and testing and rolling out of that product, was it needed a human in the loop. For AI to work properly, certainly in the short to medium term, you always need a human in the loop." #contentmatters #storytelling #contentstrategy

With YouTube's latest AI announcements, I see a lot of discussion around the dangers of AI and AI-generated content. I can honestly say that I have my own concerns as well and am trying to understand where this all goes. But this clip from Risky Business Podcast was a good reminder that this is no different from the same impacts that we've seen other innovations have in the past. The results were not catastrophic but rather empowering to the individuals who chose to use the tools appropriately. With greater democratization of access, we will empower more people to enter creative fields. However, this is a dual-sided sword because it will both empower meaningful storytellers who may not have previously had the opportunity to create content, but also create more noise that those storytellers will need to breakthrough.

I'm sick and tired of talking about AI in creativity. I want to see the RESULTS. I don't want to just keep talking at length about how AI tools are changing marketing and creativity, I want to see ➡️ how many people read it ➡️ how many people engaged with it ➡️ how many people watched (and for how long) ➡️ how much growth your podcast *actually* had ➡️ if the quality of what you're creating truly improved ➡️ how much "content" you're releasing now that you have help I'm not against AI. I use it in my business on a pretty regular basis. But I'm tired of AI being talked about as the "savior of work" or a replacement for workers and creators when in reality, it's just a tool like any other. The onus or originality still stems from human minds.

AI thinks this is what Princess Diana would look like in 2024 if she'd lived. Do you want your podcast episodes to be the audio content equivalent of a terribly inaccurate 'Diana-aged' pic? I didn't think so. In which case... Stop using one-click AI clean up tools like Descript Studio Sound and Adobe Podcast. Or if you must, at least run the resulting audio along with your original audio in a multitrack editor so you can swap between them easily. Contrary to popular belief, these tools don't actually 'clean up' anything. They work by artificially recreating the audio that was there before, as if it didn't have any background sound. And they ALWAYS get it wrong. Often they ditch entire sentences or cut the ends off of words. I'm yet to hear any AI edited content that sounds better than audio that's been properly recorded and engineered using professional tools. By all means cut time and have these 'lazy' tools handle your content for you. But understand they're going to ultimately cost you more time in growing an audience that actually enjoys hearing what you're putting out there. Don't believe me?
