 Help Veterans and Military Spouses Thrive! Are you passionate about supporting those who have served our country? Operation Headshot is a dedicated 501(c)3 organization working tirelessly to empower #transitioningservicemembers, #veterans, and #militaryspouses to achieve success and create a brighter future. Our founder, Matt Watkins, transitioned to the #reserves after serving in the #marinecorps for almost 14 years. During this time, he realized that transitioning service members, veterans, and military spouses were facing major challenges in finding their #purpose, #identity, #career, and growing their #professional #networks. He discovered that #unemployment and #underemployment rates among veterans and military spouses were alarmingly high. After many sleepless nights, he finally decided to take action and do something about it. In early spring 2022, the idea for Operation Headshot was born. Creating a nonprofit or for-profit organization was tossed around until Matt's wife, Chelsea, reminded him of her challenges as a military spouse. From being denied employment due to her husband's unpredictable Marine Corps career to selling her car to offset the cost of starting a #photography #business, she had to overcome many obstacles to feel accomplished and make ends meet. This reminder prompted them to begin the process of establishing Operation Headshot as a nonprofit, which, since fall 2023, has been able to provide essential services to military personnel at no cost. On holiday occasions I've posted the witty email repartee of one of my favorite brands, Duke Cannon. But this is Veterans Day, and taking the place of banter is a brand putting their money where their words are. I grew up in a "medically service connected" household, meaning, the five of us lived on Veterans Benefits because my father was unable to work with stability because of what happened to him in WWII. To his death he was haunted by images of war, fighting Japanese in his hospital bed. This brand, Duke Cannon, by no means a titan of retail, gave over $1.5M to Veterans causes this year. Duke Cannon has given to Veteran causes since its inception, and your continued patronage has allowed us to go from helping a single Veteran travel on Honor Flight 10 years ago, to being able to help thousands of Veterans this year alone. We established the Duke Cannon Veterans Fund earlier this year to address the areas where Veterans needed the most significant assistance, knowing that society was falling short of adequately meeting those needs. Our mission is to enable a successful transition for Veterans from military service to civilian life. To fulfill this mission, the Duke Cannon Veterans Fund provides support to organizations that provide health care, mental health support, job training, and educational services to Veterans and their families. Since then, we’ve made a $1,000,000 commitment to the Gary Sinise Foundation, to help them build specially adapted, mortgage-free smart homes for severely wounded veterans. We have also committed $300,000 to the Magnus Veterans Foundation to help provide free healthcare to Veterans and their families. We have given $150,000 to Eagle's Healing Nest, which provides care to Veterans recovering from trauma and the unseen wounds of combat, and we have granted $90,000 to Project Got Your Back to assist them in helping Veterans and their families navigate the many support programs available in various communities. These are just the programs we have made significant donations to. It does not include groups we have donated products to, or the volunteer efforts of our wider Duke Cannon team.
