#IDWIM | Diversity begins within. Our global mining team know first hand the importance of gender diversity in the Mining industry and use their lived experience to support employers with inclusive and attractive hiring practises to make space for the next female leaders in the Mining world. Christina Theoklitou-Panagiotou joined CSG Talent at a time when the mining team was small, and male dominated, much like the wider industry. Over the past 5+ years, Christina has worked with the team to expand out opportunities for women in the Mining Recruitment space, which now sits at 22 strong and a 50/50 gender split. Whilst the numbers speak volumes, Christina quotes that having a diverse team has brought both innovative ideas as well as a financial gain to the team by leveraging each others strengths. If you're a Mining employer who is looking to diversify your hiring strategy - do reach out to Christina and the team to chat here: https://lnkd.in/eYBbRCTN #InternationalDayofWomenInMining #MiningIndustry #GenderDiversity #IWIM

While the mining industry is a vital component of global economies, it grapples with a persistent lack of gender diversity. Women represent only 8 to 17 percent of the mining workforce worldwide, showcasing a substantial gap compared to other sectors. Furthermore, this gender disparity intensifies as one climbs the corporate hierarchy within mining companies. At the executive level, a mere 13 percent of C-suite positions are held by women, highlighting a significant underrepresentation of female leadership. To delve deeper into this issue and explore potential solutions, let's examine a case study showcasing how Woods and Company intervened to address gender diversity within a mining company. Why is it so challenging to increase the representation of women in the mining industry? According to a labor study from the Mining Industry Human Resources Council (MiHR), there has been a slight improvement in women's representation in the mining industry since companies became more aware of the issue. However, the improvement over the past decade has been only 3%. We recently read an insightful article that highlighted the challenges faced by women in the sector. A 2021 study by McKinsey revealed that women make up only 8-17% of the global mining workforce, with a significant drop-off from entry-level to executive positions. The article also emphasizes the importance of retention and creating a sense of belonging for female employees. Companies must prioritize diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives to attract and retain top talent. At Covergalls, we believe that by raising awareness of these challenges and advocating for change, we can help create a more equitable and diverse mining industry. Each year on June 15th we celebrate International Women in Mining Day, recognizing the trail blazers, both women and men, who have laid the path for inclusivity and empowerment in mining throughout the world. The 2024 theme is, “I am Mining and I Belong”. As the mining sector continues to evolve, this phrase serves as a powerful reminder of the diverse individuals who contribute to it and the importance of creating a more inclusive and sustainable future for all. At Procon this theme goes further, as it underscores the importance of culture and inclusivity that is fostered day in and out throughout the company. As per Mining Industry Human Resources Council (MiHR) women make up 7.9% of the Canadian underground mining workforce (2024). Procon is a proud employer of women at our project sites and offices across Canada. We are committed to the role we play in transforming the working environment and culture in underground mining respecting safety, physical and psychological, while promoting equity, diversity and inclusivity. #IDWIM #Procon #WomenInMining

Ensuring safe and respectful work environments is crucial for the well-being of women working in remote mining areas – especially Indigenous women and women of color. Addressing these concerns through policies and practices that promote safety and respect is essential for fostering a more inclusive industry.
