🔍 The 150-hour college credit requirement for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) qualification is being questioned as outdated and inequitable by Guylaine Saint Juste, President & CEO of the National Association of Black Accountants, Inc. (NABA). The requirement, introduced in the 1980s, has not adequately considered the impact on underrepresented groups, particularly Black and African American professionals. With only 2% of CPAs identifying as Black, Saint Juste highlights the need for more accessible pathways to CPA licensure that account for diverse backgrounds and challenges. She suggests looking at innovative models and alternative routes, similar to the tech industry, to make the profession more inclusive and equitable.
