Hello #connections, At the recent SHRM Annual Conference & Expo 2024 (SHRM24) in Chicago, SHRM CHRO Jim Link led a discussion with U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) acting Director Rob Shriver on the challenges and successes federal agencies face in attracting, developing, and retaining top talent. Shriver emphasized OPM’s commitment to helping federal agencies hire individuals who can best serve the U.S. population, utilizing resources like artificial intelligence and skills-based hiring. The discussion also covered support for employees’ mental and physical health. A key theme at SHRM24 was workplace immigration, highlighting the importance of tapping into diverse global talent pools. Emily M. Dickens from SHRM and Bo Cooper from Fragomen discussed navigating the global talent landscape and potential immigration policy reforms to facilitate easier hiring processes for organizations. In April, I attended a dynamic collaborative session hosted by UKRN at the FCA office in London, focusing on "Cultural Change with a Digital Focus." Alongside fellow HR specialists from the regulatory sector, we engaged in evidence-based discussions aimed at achieving positive outcomes. This session underscored the necessity of staying ahead in HR's digital transformation journey by learning, anticipating changes, and taking proactive steps. Upon reflection, I acknowledge the significance of continuously refining both my skills and those of my colleagues to keep pace with the evolving landscape of HR in the digital age.
