The Southbury bridge was hit hard by the floods, resulting in debris and significant damage on all sides of the road. Here's a quick summary of the damage and how CTDOT is working to fix it from Commissioner Garrett Eucalitto. We thank everyone for their patience as our crews work hard to restore the road so it is safe to travel on. Mid-2023 a new Flood map for Miami-Dade County affected most new ground-up construction projects as the minimum elevation of the first level was required to be higher than what the zoning code said, making the maximum height practically lower. UNTIL NOW! And Believe it or not, they made a decision that makes sense! With this new code, we now have to figure out not one but three potential base elevations to measure the maximum height of our projects. Want to know more about it? Click on the reel below.

Levee Construction and Flood Protection are complex civil works projects built to manage and control flood water movement in an effort to protect residential communities, businesses and vital infrastructure. These systems can drastically alleviate damage caused by major storm events, old or damaged stormwater conveyance systems, overdevelopment and other anomalies. Systems can be constructed to protect both long-term and short-term circumstances. Typically, these projects will involve a combination of levees, embankments, walls and gates. Because these systems are most often found adjacent to waterways, temporary structures are often employed during the construction process (similar to those used in Dam construction – cofferdams, sheet piles, support of excavation systems, dewatering systems, etc.) to maintain the integrity of surrounding infrastructure and natural elements. KC has vast experience and knowledge working around water – our expert installers are more than capable of installing critical flood protection infrastructure. #KCConstruction #stormwatermanagement #stormwater #levee #floodprotection

Maine has witnessed an 8-inch sea-level rise since 1950 and is expected to rise another 1.5 feet by 2050 and 4 feet by 2100. Knowing this, we constructed the Saco River Water Treatment Facility to be risk-resilient. Critical infrastructure is positioned above a 64-foot Design Floodplain Elevation, and the construction exceeds FEMA's 100-year and 500-year flood elevations. Ensuring operational continuity even during extreme weather, every structural element is fortified to be watertight, and our intake systems are optimized for the Saco River's variable levels. #watertreatmentplant #construction

The Gympie Bypass, part of the Bruce Highway Upgrade (Cooroy to Curra Section D), has opened to traffic. This 26-kilometre, four-lane highway is set to enhance safety, reduce travel time, and improve flood resilience for motorists traveling through the region. The project was split into two major contracts. The southern section, from Woondum to Sandy Creek Road, was delivered by the Bielby Holdings and BMD Group joint venture, while the northern section, from Sandy Creek Road to Curra, was delivered by CPB Contractors. Together, they constructed 42 bridges and several new interchanges, addressing long-standing road capacity and flood risk issues. https://lnkd.in/g7Gp-KXF #Infrastructure #CivilEngineering #RoadSafety #BruceHighway #Gympie #FloodResilience #SustainableDevelopment

Bring on the Blue Roofs!💧🌱 In response to the recent flash floods in Toronto, we are excited to spotlight an innovative blue roof project in the Port Lands area. This 1,300 sq.m. blue-green roof features a 150mm detention spacer and an additional 85mm retention layer, utilizing our FD-60 and FD-25 drainage boards. This roof is engineered to manage extreme weather conditions, with a detention volume of 195 cubic meters and a variable retention volume of 65L/sqm. It can handle a 100-year storm event, significantly reducing runoff intensity from roughly 246 L/s to just 4.0 L/s. Situated on a brownfield site, this project successfully manages nearly 100% of its water on the roof, showcasing a sustainable solution to urban flood management! 🏙️ #blueroofs #greenroofs #ZinCo #bluegreenroofs #urbanfloodmanagement #stormwatermanagement #sustainability #waterretention #waterdetention #greeninfrastructure #urbansolutions #climatechange #toronto #torontoflood
