People need to understand and agree with the reason; then they're more likely to comply. I couldn't help but take a picture of this while walking along the harbor in Copenhagen. It perfectly captures the essence of effective communication—or the lack thereof. The sign clearly states "NO BIKE PARKING IN THIS AREA," yet right next to it, bikes are parked. Just a few meters away, the designated parking remains empty. Why should someone park their bike 30 meters away when they can just park it right here? It comes down to the benefits that might not be immediately visible—whether it's keeping the area looking nice, ensuring safety, or simply following the rules. People are more likely to follow the rules when they understand and agree with the reasoning behind them. This situation reminds me of the challenges we face in the industry with new technologies. The Konsius Crew Planner, for instance, isn't just about changing how things are done; it's about showing crew managers the tangible benefits—enhanced efficiency, optimized performance, and improved crew welfare—that come with adapting to this new system. So, when implementing new systems or policies, remember to clearly communicate the benefits, not just the expectations. This approach not only increases compliance but also fosters a cooperative environment. #Leadership #Communication #ChangeManagement #MaritimeIndustry #Innovation #crewmanagement #crewplanning #konsius

Kudos to The American P&I Club for highlighting all the small things that companies can provide to #seafarers to make life start to feel a little better. It is really significant they are telling members how to improve life for seafarers through simple, yet impactful initiatives. So, while heartening, it also prompts some reflection. 🏓 Table tennis tournaments, 🎮 gaming nights, 🏊filling swimming pools and 🎂 birthday celebrations are suggested as morale boosters. These ideas are great and do work, but they also highlight a sobering reality: when did such basic human interactions become luxuries at sea? The guidance emphasises the importance of friendly competition, fitness activities, and celebratory meals. These are indeed vital for mental health and team cohesion. But it begs the question: how did we reach a point where we need reminders to prioritise these fundamental aspects of shipboard life? In the past, the Purser often took charge of crew welfare and social activities. Today, as roles evolve, who holds this crucial responsibility - who has the reins and the purse strings? Without clear ownership and empowerment, these initiatives risk falling through the cracks. It is also vital to note that if there is no downtime to do nice things, then you can have all the cake in the world, it will only choke you! While we applaud efforts to improve seafarer wellbeing, let's also push for systemic changes. Shouldn't a positive onboard environment be the norm rather than a special initiative? There needs to be a big sweeping change of emphasis, rather than the little nudges...remember small alterations of course only cause problems. So it is time to be bold! So allied to these nice ideas, we need to make sure there is time to do them, that there are cool welcoming spaces to do them in, and that there are sufficient people onboard to hang out with! What are your thoughts? How can we ensure that seafarer welfare becomes an integral part of maritime operations, not just an afterthought? #SeafarerWelfare #MaritimeIndustry #CrewWellbeing #ShippingCommunity https://lnkd.in/ePN28UuS

Empowering OTs to address driving through conversation, coaching, & a range of exceptional online & live educational programs.
You’ve likely heard that Congress failed to stop payment cuts for occupational therapy. If not, here’s the skinny: The overall payment rates for outpatient OT under Medicare were reduced by about 3.1% compared to 2023 payments. (I linked an article from AOTA at the end of the email if you want to learn more.) There are a lot of directions we could go with this news, and I encourage you to get involved to advocate for our profession. But today, we’re going to talk about how you can set yourself up for success despite declining reimbursement rates. Because, as an OT, you should be able to gain experience, expand your knowledge, specialize, and get paid well for your services. When you look ahead in your career, you should feel excited and hopeful about your future. If that’s not how you feel, then it’s time to consider making a change. >> And I don’t mean stepping away from OT entirely. You worked too hard to get here. I’m talking about becoming a specialist in an area where you can… Set your rates and your schedule. Provide excellent, life-improving services (that are worth every penny you charge). Know that you’re doing the work you dreamed of when you first learned about OT. If you haven’t heard, driver rehabilitation is my passion. I firmly believe that OTs make exceptional driver rehabilitation specialists because of our wide knowledge base and holistic perspective. Driver rehab is also a specialty where you have more control over your schedule and your income. That means you don’t have to settle for ongoing reimbursement cuts and subsequent salary reductions or pick up weekend shifts to make ends meet. I’ve taught thousands of OTPs about driving rehabilitation and helped nearly one hundred become Driver Rehab Specialists. They’ve gone on to build successful driver rehab businesses in their communities, filling a gap in services and creating a career they love. There are only two spots still available for the OT Driver Rehabilitation Specialist Training, March 25-27th in beautiful Orwigsburg, PA. To learn more, or secure your spot, click the button below https://lnkd.in/d3WW9fc This training includes 15 hours of online education plus 3 days of in-person, hands-on training using adaptive equipment and adapted vehicles. (Be prepared to geek out.) 🚗 After this training, you’ll be equipped to provide OT driver rehab services as a specialist in the car and, of course, driving readiness assessments in the clinic too. It’s your first step in building your dream practice where you have control of your time and schedule. You can call the shots instead of being at the mercy of declining reimbursement rates. If you’re curious about this opportunity, I’d love to chat with you and answer your questions. PM me or shoot me an email (susie@adaptivemobility.com). Together, we’ll figure out if this is the right move for your career.
