Our latest study, with Charity Kibooga and Nakiyemba Constance, delves into antibiotic usage patterns among Ugandan livestock farmers, most of whom are small holder livestock keepers, highlighting significant public health concerns. Key findings show that one in three farmers used antibiotics over the one-year period of investigation, with 15% using them monthly. Factors like production systems and perceptions of antibiotic efficacy (some incorrect) drive this usage. We recommend enhanced veterinary extension education and public awareness to ensure safe antibiotic practices. We acknowledge and are grateful for the funding received from The 50x2030 Initiative.
