The Green Beret Foundation (GBF) launched the Pineland Initiative on November 10, 2021. This new campaign focuses on expanding the Foundation’s scope of services to include pre-9/11 U.S. Army Special Forces soldiers and their families. The Pineland Initiative, which launched in 2022, reflects a 3-year phased approach to growth and expansion of existing programs and services to accommodate the needs of the pre-9/11 Green Beret population. One key aspect of this expansion is the welcoming of additional Veteran Service Officers (VSOs) onboard GBF staff to meet the anticipated greater need for assistance with the preparation and prosecution of Veterans Affairs benefits and disability claims. These new VSOs will bring with them the added benefit of providing a Foundation presence geographically located at each of the five Active Duty Special Forces Groups, and two National Guard Special Forces Groups, located around the country. The name “Pineland” pays tribute to the shared legacy of Green Berets, past and present. This initiative is well-timed, as the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the U.S. Army Special Forces will be commemorated this coming June 19th. With Pineland being the first initiative in GBF’s history to support Green Berets of all generations, there’s an opportunity to honor those that laid the groundwork to make the Green Berets the world’s premier, elite special operations force. I have been going through my military records today, and it got me thinking: What is your shoulder sleeve insignia for former wartime service and what does it mean to you? In case you do not know, the shoulder sleeve insignia for former wartime service, commonly known as the "combat patch," is a distinctive patch worn on the right sleeve of the uniform by US Army soldiers who have served in combat. It signifies the individual's participation in a designated wartime period or campaign.   The importance of the combat patch lies in several aspects: Recognition of Service, Unit Cohesion, Tradition and Honor, and Combat Identification.   A combat patch connects soldiers to the long history of the military and the sacrifices made by those who have served before them. It’s still #MilitaryAppreciationMonth, so here’s what we’re working on to help servicememebrs and their families [point down] We’re calling on Congress to improve quality of life in the military. The House Armed Services Committee’s Quality of Life Panel, led by For Country Caucus Members Rep. Don Bacon and Rep. Chrissy Houlahan, recently released their legislative recommendations for the FY25 #NDAA, which HASC Chairman Mike Rogers has stated will serve as the base of the annual defense bill. Included in their recommendations was a 15% pay increase for junior enlisted troops and a plan to address dilapidated military housing. We strongly urge Congress to accept these recommendations and include them in the #NDAA as we approach the first round of markups.
