This morning, as we woke up to the first new government in 14 years, it made us think: how is this going to affect my everyday life, my family, our business? This time, I hope that people think more about how this change is going to affect society, the people around us, and the most vulnerable, disaffected, and those who need the most support. Let's hope this is an era of selfless public service, in which people are inspired to do what they can to help others, improve society, and 'be the change.' It doesn't always need an inspirational figure, a uniting force, or a wave of optimism - sometimes we can see society rise from the most challenging phases out of necessity. In the arts and culture industries, we looked to Thangam Debbonaire, who lost her seat to the Green Party, and now we’re optimistic about working with Lisa Nandy, maybe a more engaged and passionate Culture Secretary than we have seen in recent years. We hope that there might be protection and growth in the arts, but together we can lobby and collaborate to make things happen ourselves too. I hope that today, whatever our political color, people and companies in the arts can work to provide a balance against extremism, tell stories that matter, give voices to those who are unheard, and unite people where there is division. Every election day is a new beginning, and here's another chance to reset, refresh ourselves, and tell a different, optimistic story in the years ahead. 🙏

At the event, we released a new report – The Power of Evidence to Drive American’s Progress: A Decade of Results and Potential for the Future. Written by Dr. Christina Ciocca Eller of Harvard University, the report details the great strides that have been made, across Democratic and Republican Administrations, to move more dollars toward evidence-based solutions and to help federal agencies build the teams and tools to evaluate what works.
