From today you can enjoy cheaper travel on public transport across Queensland with a flat rate of 50 cents applying to all Translink services.   As the Sunshine Coast continues to experience rapid population growth and increasing road congestion, this 6-month trial aims to encourage a shift towards public transport.   The Sunshine Coast’s private vehicle ownership rates are the second highest in Australia. Without a significant mode shift to sustainable transport, we can expect 830,000 extra car trips on our roads daily by 2041.   We understand that factors such as service frequency, accessibility, and connectivity are important considerations going forward. Micromobility and public transport work better together! AtB, the public transport authority in Trøndelag, Norway, is providing #escooters 🛴 and #ebikes 🚲 to the less populated municipalities. AtB is subsidising micromobility services in areas where they are less likely to be successful for the operators. This makes it possible for residents in these areas to have access to alternative mobility options, even in places where cars were previously the main transportation option. Huge congratulations to Getlink for celebrating 30 years! Bring Back Euro Trains applauds its commitment to providing effective, eco-friendly solutions to mobility and transport issues. Over the years, Getlink has positioned itself as a trailblazer and key actor in the rail transport industry. To continue to champion our environment, we need more bold initiatives, as proposed by Yann Leriche, which focus on doubling direct high-speed services. Direct trains should especially be prioritised, as they emit significantly less carbon dioxide than non-direct train journeys. Before March 2020, passengers from Kent were able to take a direct train from Ashford and Ebbsfleet stations into Europe, a service which was abruptly stopped due to Coronavirus. Three years later, this service has yet to resume, to the detriment of Kent’s economy and environment, and other residents from regions nearby who used to benefit from it. Bring Back Euro Trains exists to support the return of cross-channel trains to the Kent stations it used to serve. We invite Getlink to support the expansion of its proposed London to continental Europe services to call at Ashford and Ebbsfleet International Stations. This would not only benefit Kent residents and business owners who especially moved to the area for the attractive European connection, but also residents in other regions who preferred to stop at Ashford station to get a train into Europe. The future of rail is green. GetLink aiming to double Eurotunnel crossings with new destinations The company said that it had halved the time needed to bring a new service to market as it heads into its fourth decade of operation. Eurotunnel’s parent company Getlink is aiming to double the number of crossing through the #channeltunnel over the next ten years as it looks to make it easier for new operators to introduce services. The company claimed to have halved the time it would take to get a new service in operation, from ten to five years, by conducting a range of market and station surveys for potential new routes, highlighting #Cologne, #Germany and #Geneva, #Switzerland. CEO Yann Leriche made the announcement while marking the company’s 30th anniversary celebrations at their facilities in Coquelles, #France, describing the event as opening “the second chapter” in the company’s history. Leriche also referenced the recent reports that new operators were looking to run services through the tunnel from London to Europe, possibly challenging Eurostar’s monopoly on the route for the first time in its three-decade history. The CEO confirmed the news published by high-speed start-up Evolyn, that it was in talks to launch operations, saying its agreement to acquire #rollingstock from Alstom could mean services would begin earlier than the five-year timeline. However, while Leriche also mentioned Dutch company HEURO, which has also said it has plans to run services from #London to #Amsterdam via the #tunnel, the company would not comment on the possibility of new operators introducing any of the new routes Leriche had outlined. He did not name the other two companies rumoured to be in talks with GetLink. In addition to inviting new operators to take advantage of the potential new routes, the CEO also called on the UK Government to support GetLink’s desire to change the gauge of tracks linking to Kent to allow for a greater range of #freight #trains to operate further from the tunnel. In Toronto, Canada, we often encounter scenes where bus drivers, sometimes grumpy, ignore people waiting at bus stops, refusing to stop, or even when they're already stopped, they pretend not to see someone asking to board. It's essential not to generalize, as there are instances where we're fortunate to encounter drivers who are attentive and diligent.
