On March 30, 2023, the Vatican rejected the 15th-century #DiscoveryDoctrine, which aimed to justify the colonial-era seizure of Indigenous lands. Despite this rejection, reparative measures and extensive land returns to #IndigenousPeoples are still needed to address the lasting harm caused by the Doctrine. February 13 marks the anniversary of the National Apology to the Stolen Generations. It was a significant milestone for healing for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, who suffered as a result of past government policies of forced child removal and assimilation. It is important that, as a nation, we commemorate and acknowledge the wrongs of the past, while reflecting on the work that still needs to be done to address the impacts of unresolved trauma. Pacific indigenous leaders, including the Māori King, today urged the legal recognition of whales as persons with inherent rights. “Their songs are the very heartbeat of the ocean, and their presence reflects the strength of our own mana (spiritual essence). We have a responsibility to ensure their survival for generations to come.” “This fund will empower Indigenous communities, the natural guardians of our shores, and support initiatives aligned with the declaration’s goals. Together, we can create a Hinemoana Halo, a woven cloak of protection for these taonga (treasures), our whales.” It's from colonialism and the loss of wisdom from our ancestors that enable today's accepted culture of cognitive dissonance with the living world. The wisdom of our ancestors has a value of the highest importance, sustaining life on earth and living in harmony. Anil Bhatnagar Sir! From pieces to peace …what a title and how timeless is the content! We are infact in that mental asylum and divided into myriad pieces by race, nationality, religion, language, colour, caste, geneder. Our identities with our education and experience has only become further divided. We have utilized our mental prowess, our intellectual ability to discriminate and differentiate. Our abilities to distinguish and differentiate rewards us richly in our professional life. The same differentiaion, distinction and dissection we have employed to divide the human race. The ideas of collaboration, integration and assimilation are seldom emphasised. We need to individually look deep within our hearts to discover the region beyond fear and greed, to arrive at individual peace. Only individual peace can lead us to total assimilation or integration of the global fabric. There has been attempts in history to assimilate a large chunk of humanity, the unifications of Germany and Italy for example. But such efforts of selective assimilation ultimately became a threat to world peace. The citizens of the world must realise that global peace can only be achieved by individual peace and Govts of the world can not foster it through a UN kind of set up. We make ladoos from Bundis that are not lumped together. Indididual peace free from identity tags,makes us free bundis for an integrated global ladoo.
