Show & Tell: Take-Off Sheets 📝 Estimating Intern Kaitlyn B. recently took some time to tell us about take-off sheets and their importance to the estimating process. These are the hands-on, practical skills that interns at #CupertinoElectric are learning, and we're incredibly proud to see how quickly they are grasping the significant concepts in electrical construction ⚡ #ElectricalConstruction #PowerAndPossibilities #Construction

Everyone killing Cupertino Electric, Inc. for having her use take off sheets and paper is crazy. This is the best way to learn when you have zero experience and you’re starting from the ground up. Yeah, we know you can use bluebeam and do symbol searches and take off a whole drawings sheet in minutes but what are you really teaching an estimator by doing that? As a new estimator I need you to look at everything on each sheet to find what a computer search for a symbol will miss. Read all the notes, double check the markups, confirm the voltage, confirm feeder sizes. Did you find some discrepancies? Can you get that RFI in before a bid is due that might affect the cost? Get her some highliters and a clicker!!

She’s learning how to do takeoff the way I first learned 20 years ago. I don’t miss that old slow method at all.

Alright Kaitlyn ⚡️ Happy learning the rest of summer.
