AtkinsRéalis has entered into an agreement with Third Qinshan Nuclear Power Company Limited (TQNPC) to support the ongoing 30-year life extension of the two CANDU reactors at the Qinshan Nuclear Generating Station in China. As part of the mandate, our Nuclear business will provide design, engineering, and procurement services in support of the project. As the original equipment manufacturer and steward of CANDU technology, AtkinsRéalis was a member of the project team that originally built the reactors at Qinshan. They came into service on time and on budget — as is the case for the last seven CANDU units built around the world. Our CANDU life extension reactor support business is a $15 billion total addressable market that could include 19 CANDU reactors over the next 10 years. As the sole commercial licensee of the Canadian-owned CANDU intellectual property portfolio, AtkinsRéalis is the only organization that has taken a leading role in all CANDU reactor life extension projects to date globally. Burns & McDonnell is partnering with BWX Technologies, Inc. (BWXT) to develop transportable microreactors designed for remote locations like mines and military bases. This collaboration, announced last month, advances the BWXT Advanced Nuclear Reactor—a compact system set to deliver 50 MW of thermal power.  With the project backed by an $85.3 million funding award from the U.S. Energy Department, Burns & McDonnell will handle engineering the balance of the plant systems and preconstruction planning. The work includes conceptual design and regulatory planning, with phase two set to wrap up by Q3 2025.  BWXT's microreactor features TRISO nuclear fuel for enhanced safety and a passive cooling system. This initiative, supported by nearly $10 million from Wyoming Energy Authority, aims to diversify the state’s energy production.  As demand for clean, reliable power grows, small-scale nuclear reactors offer innovative solutions. 📝⚛️🇳🇱 Westinghouse Electric Company (ENS Corporate Member) announced the signing of a contract with the Dutch government to conduct a Technical Feasibility Study (TFS) assessing the deployment of AP1000 reactors at Borssele site, in support of the country's #nuclear new-build #strategy. 🌱⚛️💡 "The TFS represents a significant step forward in the country’s ambitious strategy to achieve #carbonneutrality by 2050, aligning with the European Union’s #climategoals and the Dutch commitment to carbon-neutral #electricity production by 2035", Westinghouse said. 🏗️⚛️👷♀️ In December 2022, the Dutch government confirmed the selection of the #Borssele site as a preferred location for the proposed construction of two new nuclear power reactor units, which should be deployed by 2035, having each a capacity between 1,000 MW and 1,650 MW, and use a Generation III+ reactor technology. The very first fourth-generation nuclear power station in under construction in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. This style uses molten salt for cooling rather than water. It is also the first non-light-water reactor to be permitted in the U.S. in over 50 years. The new cooling technology is more stable and more efficient than standard processes.

Just to let you know. Fission is on its way to becoming redundant faster because it is "out of step, out of time, out of place," and only an interim industry in the world. Did you know that more than 300 existing and retired coal power plant sites are suitable to host advanced nuclear power plants? According to a 2022 DOE report, each plant could match the size of the site being converted and increase nuclear capacity by more than 250 GW—nearly tripling the current capacity of 95 GW.
