A long way to go, but the concept and delivery of a stable #GDF to house the UK's legacy #nuclear waste is covered almost as much in the media as new-build EDF sites. It is an important factor not just today, but for generations to come, and the engineers planning these facilities have to predict and take into account even future potential earthquakes and ice ages in order to select the most appropriate site. It is absolutely appropriate - and maybe a happy coincidence - that work is happening concurrently on both ends of the nuclear fuel lifecycle; I hope that the GDF project will align well with the commissioning and activation of the UK's new nuclear power fleet going into the second half of the 21st century.
Where will the UK bury nuclear waste for 100,000 years?

With this latest MOU, Saskatchewan and Alberta are sending a clearer market signal that they (we) are serious about advancing Western Canada's first nuclear power sector. Will this nascent industry include a large nuclear power plant, such as the CANDU Monarch design or the Westinghouse AP1000, in addition to the GE / Hitachi BWRX-300 small modular reactor (https://lnkd.in/grTF4kEH) that Saskatchewan is seriously investigating to build starting in the late 2020s? Alberta's Minister of Utilities - Nathan Neudorf said: “Alberta is proud to partner with Saskatchewan on further exploring how we can ensure our power grids are affordable, reliable, and sustainable,” Neudorf said. “Our provinces are leading the world in responsible energy development, and we look forward to learning from Saskatchewan’s experience with nuclear generation.” It sounds like Alberta may be leaning towards co-investment in a Saskatchewan built nuclear hub? Will this involve an Alberta power purchase agreement through a newly minted crown corporation? Only time will tell. For the skeptics: 1. No form of power production is safer than nuclear. 2. Spent nuclear fuel is not waste, it represents the most promising form of potential energy known to man if utilized effectively. 3. Baseload power is absolutely critical, both for residential and heavy industrial costumers. Build Fusion energy generators Your talk as Nuclear (meaning only Fission) and fails to talk about fusion. https://lnkd.in/ge_aeX7M You are, as the nuclear fission industry is, ignorant of what's happening around you. Pull your uranium heads out, start adjusting your industry to fusion energy and start preparing to enter the commercially growing fusion energy industry. As it dawns on Earth like the sun. Great Headline Guardian on Nuclear fission. https://lnkd.in/g8sMZtpR Fission is moving towards obsolescence at an accelerated pace, as it is "out of step, out of time, out of place," and merely a temporary industry globally. https://lnkd.in/gbd_mZqk Commercial fusion electrical generation is a promising and innovative method of producing sustainable and clean energy. By 2028, Helion is expected to start producing electricity from its first fusion commercial power plant, which will provide electricity to Microsoft. The plant will produce at least 50 MWe after an initial ramp-up period. https://lnkd.in/gY9J3MQY Now see what news is happening in the Fusion industry in the world. https://lnkd.in/g9hMBD7a As fission trebles, fission fuel shortage is increasingly real, as linked below. https://lnkd.in/gze5rwpr
The proposal ( Brain Fart) put forward by The Hon. Peter Dutton MP to build a nuclear power station in the Latrobe Valley and Anglesea, has strong opposition from the affected communities. These communities have not been consulted in the matter and are not willing to be used as a dumping ground for nuclear power. The proposal for nuclear is incompatible with the renewable energy transition that is already happening across Australia. The Latrobe Valley local interviewed at the start of the Win News interview says it well. https://lnkd.in/g4EZ-yTG

#Georgia Power’s #Vogtle nuclear power plant’s expansion (units 3 & 4) is now complete with unit 4 coming online 4/29/2024. This is a great achievement for Georgia Power and Westinghouse as approximately 2 million homes around the Augusta, GA area can be powered through low-cost, emission-free generation. Although the expansion should be celebrated, delays (7 years) and cost over-runs ($17B) can’t be ignored. Because of the magnitude of this project and short fallings with project execution, confidence in US nuclear has been damaged and unrealized risks for future projects will have to be assessed before these projects are green-lit. #NuclearPower #VogtlePowerPlant #Georgia #EnergyConsultant #InfinityPowerPartners

Fissile fuel is a finite resource and will increase reduction and cost as industry grows to a point of no fuel source. This has already been projected by the UN and was at time 250 years now with the projected growth of this to three times that it reduces to less than 80 yrs. Costs of fuel to reprocess and raw are already growing in the fissile fuel market and the 39 countries with fission reactors are now securing their supply and restricting sale to others. Best to divest and invest in Building and talking about Fusion power, space, and maritime propulsion systems and industry as data centres are.
