🚨Policy Brief Alert! 🚨 We are thrilled to share our first policy brief which explores EU policies on cultural accessibility for people with disabilities. While progress has been made, there are critical gaps—especially in the integration of #multisensory technologies and the inclusion of artists with disabilities. 📌 Key Highlights: - Limited multisensory integration in current policies. - Sustainability of inclusive practices needs improvement. - Enhanced support for technological innovation and data collection is crucial. We believe that cultural heritage should be accessible to everyone, regardless of ability. On the third Thursday of May is the annual Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD). GAAD is a crucial annual event that emphasizes the importance of ensuring digital content and services are accessible to everyone regardless of their abilities. In an increasingly digital world where the internet serves as a gateway to education, information, healthcare, employment and communication, it's essential to prioritize inclusivity. GAAD serves as a reminder that digital assets such as websites, videos, audio content, and social media platforms should be designed and developed with accessibility in mind. This means ensuring that people with vision, hearing, mobility and cognitive impairments can navigate and interact with these resources effectively. By promoting accessibility, GAAD aims to ensure that individuals with disabilities have equal access to online opportunities and can achieve the same successful outcomes as those without impairments. I'm dedicating my quote for this initiative: "Accessibility enables everyone to access the possibilities." Let the possibilities begin! #GAAD #GlobalAccessibilityAwarenessDay #Accessibility #A11y #Inclusion #Equality #AI #DigitalAccessibility #Technology

The National Science Foundation is investing in research solutions to address challenges faced by persons with disabilities, including the development of assistive and rehabilitative technologies to enhance their quality of life and provide greater opportunities for gainful employment. With a $30 million investment, NSF has selected six multidisciplinary research teams to advance in their research. One awardee is MABLE (Mapping for Accessibility in Environments). Led by primary investigator and Lehigh Computer Science Professor Vinod Namboodiri, the team seeks to provide people with disabilities independence to experience large events, conferences and educational programs. Meet the Speaker! Tudor Paul SCRIPOR, The Inventor of Tactile Standardization for the Blind, will join us for our 3rd Annual Romanian Accessibility Awareness Day Conference 2024. The Scripor Alphabet. Tactile Colors for the Blind, is a company committed to enhancing accessibility for visually impaired individuals through the groundbreaking tactile colour alphabet. Developed by Tudor Paul Scripor, this innovative system offers a universal standard for colour identification, utilising a dot-based method similar to Braille. At the core of their work is the belief embodied in their motto, "Nihil de Nobis, sine Nobis" – "Nothing about us without us." This principle of active participation drives every aspect of their projects, ensuring that visually impaired individuals are not only beneficiaries of their solutions but also key contributors to their design and implementation. Guided by the user's input and needs, they have successfully introduced colour into the lives of those who cannot see. So far, they have developed a wide range of products that make colour accessible to the visually impaired, allowing them to engage with colour in various aspects of their everyday lives. Tudor will join our Panel Four discussion: Future Trends and Innovations. Technology at the service of inclusion. 🤗 In a fast-paced word and industry, it’s important to keep track of what matters most. And as we often say at SLB, our most important asset is People. Not only our people, but all people in the communities where we live and work. In February, I attended EGYPES 2024 in Cairo and I was humbled to be a part of the Technical Committee reviewing and evaluating submitted papers focusing on Innovating in Talent Development. What a joy when I saw that so many of these papers were centered around inclusion. And more precisely, how we can leverage the unique talent and expertise of our people to create technologies that can promote and better inclusion. From using AI and VR to assist education for neurodivergent and disabled people to upscale technical competences systems allowing a better understanding of how we can support people with disability, we discussed at length how we can, together, create more inclusive workplaces and personal behaviors. Now time for us all to act and become more inclusive! #WeAreSLB #Inclusion

Questioning gender relations, violence, consumption habits or just the appeal of high carbon footprint solutions is often perceived as an assault on masculinity and framed as such by populists. Join Fondation SURGIR for challenge #9 at the #PeaceTech #Hackathon: What social or technological devices can fuel the rise of new models of masculinity facilitating gender equality? A way out of this obstacle is to help people embrace new definitions of masculinities revolving around healthier, fairer, and more sustainable norms. The last century has witnessed attempts at defining such “new masculinities” (through discussions groups, workshops, counter-cultural movements, etc.) but their outcomes have been limited in scope, either very local or short-lived. Our assumption is that todays’ cultural and technological environment offers new opportunities for such projects to take root and bear fruit. Bring your creativity and join this track.
