🌠🛰️ Space Cybersecurity Watch by CyberInflight, W7 🛰️🌠
Resilience Index for Space Cybersecurity (RISC): 61%
Here is the light version of the weekly watch exercise consolidated by the CyberInflight team 👨👨👧👧 🛰️ We've selected 6 ⭐ articles to highlight this week, the rest is blurred out and reserved for the full watch.
You can subscribe to the full watch here: research@cyberinflight.com
Among the articles ⭐ it is possible to find :
1️⃣ The U.S. Space Force’s top officer announced that the scale and scope of Russian and Chinese threats to American assets in orbit is “of paramount concern”.
2️⃣ ENISA published a report exploring the cybersecurity of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) constellations providing telecommunications services (LEO satcom).
3️⃣ The FBI and international partners disrupted a network of over 1000 hacked routers controlled by Russia's GRU for cyber operations. The incident involved the use of large language models like ChatGPT and targeted radar imaging technology and satellite communication protocols.

This week in space cybersecurity saw significant developments. South Korea's National Intelligence Service (NIS) took steps to enhance satellite cybersecurity following a recent attack on the Korea Satellite Operations Center. On the technology front, Safran Federal Systems upgraded its Geonyx inertial navigation system to perform reliably even in GPS-denied environments.
In market news, K2 Space is developing a large satellite bus called the Mega Class, with a focus on cybersecurity in collaboration with the Air Force Research Lab. To improve industry knowledge, CyberInflight’s team attended the Defense and Space summer school at Sciences Po Bordeaux.
A notable academic study suggested ways to enhance spacecraft cybersecurity by simplifying software architecture to reduce vulnerabilities. Regulatory guidance was also updated, offering new recommendations for space system operators to manage common cyber risks, in line with NIST standards.
Finally, Space ISAC issued an updated threat level assessment to inform the space industry about current threat levels. Despite these efforts, the weekly Resilience Index (RISC) score saw a slight decrease from 59% to 57%.

🗣 "I joined the GUTMA Secure and Resilient UTM Task Force and was impressed by the thought leaders that were involved with the team that GUTMA brought together. ResilienX has been working in the background on our FRAIHMWORK product, and we’re excited to see that it is so relevant to mitigating UTM risks, such as cybersecurity, as highlighted by the task force report. "
➡ We had the chance to interview Matthew Synborski, CTO at ResilienX.
#ResilienX is GUTMA's newest family member, a trusted leader in safety assurance solutions for autonomous ecosystems.
