Hey! Look at me, I was “on the radio” this past November 2023, for 30 whole minutes describing my worst of times: severe concussions from 1973 and 1983 car wrecks, and a major life crash following a 2006 brain surgery. Amy Zellmer is dedicated to helping people who have had brain trauma due to surgeries, accidents, falls, and childhood injuries. If you ever had a brain injury, or know of someone who has, it may give you important insights. BTW, you don’t need to be “knocked out” to have a concussion, so you might qualify. Concussions/injuries are not “one off,” as symptoms recur, and mild traumatic brain injury (TBI) is often not caught by ER docs. I explore how the medical community misses this important piece of our histories, and how shame from resulting dysfunction keeps people (me included) from getting the help they need. For those who have known me for decades, and didn’t know all about this aspect of my life, it may explain a lot. If you resonate with this topic, all her podcasts are fascinating and helpful. As always, if you wish to discuss your own response, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly: cynthia@cynthiawall.com. #traumaticbraininjury #tbi #braininjury

Natural Movement Coaching & Inspiration - move more, move in different ways and move well to keep doing the things you love. Embracing a movement-rich life will help you stay mobile, strong and capable as you age.
So often, people take a path in life due to significant experiences that change their trajectory. Caz Hitchcock is one such person. Her career as a self-proclaimed, ‘human movement expert’ has been shaped by her own personal experience of multiple surgeries at an early age. In this episode focussing on the less-explored subject of scar tissue, I asked Caz to inform us about the specifics; what scar tissue is and its role in the body. We went on to analyse how it affects the body immediately after injury or surgery, as well as the evolving nature of scar tissue over time. As ever, when things happen to the body, there's always as significant an impact on the mind in order to cope with these experiences. We discuss the importance of a collaborative, holistic approach that addresses the interconnectedness of mind and body. This episode offers practical insights, from assessing scar tissue issues to self-massage techniques for enhanced mobility. It advocates for proactive engagement in one's healing journey, fostering a sense of empowerment, curiosity, and mindful recovery. I found this conversation educational, motivating and inspiring and hope you do too. Has this resonated with you? 'Make Movement Matter' podcast #9. In this episode, I recount a vivid memories from the early-90s when I was home from college and faced an unexpected health complication. What started as a restless night at my boyfriend’s house turned into a painful ordeal that led me to emergency surgery. Despite our initial misjudgment of the situation, the pain escalated, forcing me to reach out to family for support. From my sister’s caregiving instincts to my Grammy's wisdom, this story highlights the importance of family during times of distress and seeking healthcare when you are unsure of symptoms you are feeling, even if they begin to improve on their own. Know the warning signs of appendicitis. Tune in as I share my story of discovering I had appendicitis and the humorous aftermath of post-surgery conversations in a drugged state. Have you ever said anything in a drugged state you wish you could take back? Join me for a blend of nostalgia, humor, and heartfelt moments.
