The number of households that participate in the Covington curbside recycling program has grown tremendously in the last eight years. Here are the numbers by neighborhood. Numbers represent the percentage of households who contract for trash pickup that also use a recycling cart. Notice that every single neighborhood has increased over this period. The recycling program carries no additional cost beyond the annual trash collection fee. In all, some 2,410 tons of recyclable material was diverted from landfills in Fiscal Year 2024. #recycling #CovRecycles #CovingtonRecycles #recyclingprogram

This is a great example of effective waste management. Different areas used by different people means we cannot always have the same waste collection set up. Tailoring the available streams, size, and design based on what is needed is very important to ensure less contamination in each stream and that people can dispose of their waste correctly. I would love to eventually see an organic waste stream to capture all of the apple cores, banana peels, and picnic leftovers and composted with the park's yard waste! Another hope is that New Yorkers can shift towards fewer disposables, more reusables and be more okay with carrying their waste until they find an appropriate place to dispose of it and not litter or pile it on top of already overfilled waste bins.

Guests accidentally mixed one rubbish bag in the recycling because the rubbish bin wasn’t there. 🚮♻️ The bin man didn't take the recycling because of this 😩.
