December 2023 Best Practice Series: Enhancing the Peer Support Workforce for People with I/DD and Their Families 11:00 am-12:30 pm Pacific The Supporting Families Best Practice Series will introduce and elevate best practices related to supporting families. The series will be held quarterly in collaboration with the National Community of Practice for Supporting Families. Each session will feature a panel of individuals or entities who will address key recommendations from the National Agenda through their lens of grassroots advocacy, “practice level” implementation, state service systems, federal policies, and research. This Best Practice Series will focus on Recommendation 3: Design and fund peer support as a critical service, including state-specific funding for Family Support Programs as well as Recommendation 6: Ensure meaningful leadership roles of people and families with lived experience by professionalizing family and self-advocate roles and increasing mechanisms for capacity building and preparing organizations and systems to appreciate family leadership. https://lnkd.in/g-dyzAGb

During today’s Leadership Program Government Day, Supervisor Joe Simitian, District 5 Supervisor, County of Santa Clara, led an informative session called “13 Tips for Successful Advocacy.” Leadership Program participants learned helpful tools to become more effective advocates. What tips do you have to be an effective advocate?
