What if I told you for every day you spend on Earth, you dedicate one-third of it lying horizontally, with your eyes closed and your mouth drooling? At first glance, it might not seem momentous, but let’s take a step back and view this fact from a wider perspective. One-third of a day is equivalent to 8 hours, one-third of a year translates to about 4 months, and one-third of a decade sums up to approximately 3 years and 4 months. This means that, if you’re 24 years old like me, you’ve spent 8 years motionless and unaware of the world around you. Eight whole years dedicated to doing nothing. This realization became a recurring thought for me, particularly each night.... Check the article below to read more about my experience with sleep and sleep deprivation. This goes for everything - including sleep. The perspective you cultivate about being awake at night can grow you flowers or it can grow you weeds (and in fact, even if something is a flower or a weed/a wanted thing or an unwanted thing is also a matter of perspective). Awake at 2am? At a party? All good! Awake at 2am? Not wanting to be? All bad! The being awake part isn't the issue, it's how we view being awake. If we view it as OK, we are not only more at ease but more likely to fall back to sleep. If we view it as not OK, we will use valuable energy and the frustration will make it less likely we fall back to sleep. Have you noticed this?
